Since we are talking H.S. already, what about our local Jr. High teams? I'd say Burg will be at the top. Who else to watch out for?

I would assume Oak Hill would be considered the top team until proven otherwise?

Oak Hill will be the team to beat hands down.
Burg will be far from the top. Will have decent hitting but inconsistent and inexperienced pitching.
Ironton is down.
Webster lost some hitting.
New Boston lost a lot.
East, West and Clay are weak.
Valley Lost hitting but still some solid pitching and the coaches put on the work in the fall with the girls.
Notre Dame lost a lot, still a couple average players.
Portsmouth will be a year older now and will improve drastically.
SURPRISE TEAM: Green
They have one of the best pitchers in this area. Probably THE BEST defensive shortstops in the area. Solid hitting and coaching with a weight and conditioning program that I believe has already started for the upcoming season.
Had a roster on 6th and 7th graders last season and beat every team except Valley, Burg and Oak Hill. (Didn't play Ironton 8th grade, beat Ironton 7th)

I know Greenup County isn't Southeastern Ohio but they are still local and played several teams in Ohio last year. They were made up of all 6th and 7th graders last year except for two 8th graders which one was a Catcher and the other a sub player. So the only spot not returning would be a Catcher which they should have another strong one to fill in that spot this year. They played Minford's 8th grade and 7th grade teams, Valley, and Irontons 8th grade last season. They played a close game with Minford's 8th grade team and beat the 7th grade team. They beat Valley and lost to Irontons 8th grade team.

In Kentucky 7th & 8th graders can play up on Varsity and JV. If none of the players are pulled up and the team returns it should be a real solid team of mostly 8th graders.

Northwest will be one of the top contenders as well, with only losing 2 8th grade starters from last years squad and a 7th grader that will definitely help out Notre Dame.

Perhaps you are not as familiar with other players in this area as you think.

I don't know if I would say Clay is weak. I don't believe they had a Jr. High team last year but if they are able to field a team this season they should be reasonable. They have a few girls that have a few years experience at travel ball level. Although she is younger they will have what I would consider one of the better pitchers in the area. They won't be as deep as most teams but I don't think they will be weak. They should be able to hold their own.

Given the nature of my job I'm pretty involved with most of them and see a lot of them in the travel season.
I trust my credentials more than your dad goggles.

I guess we should call Clay "young" more than "weak"

Young would be a good word to use.

Not to defend Orangeandblack but he/she didn't really make a comment about a team so not sure he has goggles on.

So it looks like its going to be a toss up on who the top junior high will be. Who will be the impact players?

Portsmouth - 7th grader Perry(pitcher/infield)
Clay - 8th grader Cochran (shortstop/pitcher)and the 7th grade pitcher.
Valley - their pitcher named Faith (can't think of her last name)
Oak Hill - (all of them lol)
Green - Jenkins (pitcher/catcher) Kimbler (Shortstop/Pitcher) Carver (1st Base)
Ironton - Richendollar (pitcher)
Burg/Note Dame- Solid squads, no standouts though.
Webster - Messler (pitcher) Bailey (catcher)
East, New Boston - None

Burg/ND no standouts? I had heard Burg has a really good 8th grader? Is she a freshman now?

Think so. But I could actually be wrong on that one.

It's surprising to me that the top two players hasnt been mentioned. 8th grade from burg- sturgill and 7th or 8th grade from oak hill- hughes. coldhardtruth if you are watch as much travel ball as you claim you would know that.

I agree. Both play on top travel teams and should be top players in the area.

Both would start on 90% of the HS squads in So. Ohio. Highly talented kids who have invested them selves in being the best they can be . Both play for top travel organizations in Ohio against great competition every time they play. Burg kid will have a shot at being another D1 player for Burg , with zero doubt .

I agree. OakHill kid is a 7th grader I believe. Both of those kids mentioned will be D1 recruits. watched a really talented kid over the summer, I believe was from ironton or coal grove area. pitcher, should play junior high for one of those. ND will have a very talented 8th grader as well.
