This is going to be an exciting sectional. Hope every team is at their best and no injuries. Should be fun.

Made it down to see the Athens vs Gallia game last night. Neither team threw a typical rotation arm, but from what I saw, Athens should win easily if Gallia makes it to the May 11th game. From what I watched last night, I have no idea how Gallia has a winning record. Only thing I can guess is that OVC must be a pretty weak league. Didn't Gallia win their conference? (and they're a 7 seed in this sectional...)

Athens won't have to worry about throwing their 1 or 2 in the May 11th game if they didn't need to.

With not many games next week & a break before districts, my guess is everyone will throw their 1 just to get em work in.

Good point, in that case, if it is a Athens vs Gallia match-up...Athens will roll into districts on cruise control.

Athens will probably throw Sano against Gallia but Rodgers is really good too

Nice seeding to allow Athens to get winner of Gallia/VC instead of Meigs/VC. How did Gallia get the #7 over Meigs which got the #8. Does anyone look at heads-up records or "good wins/bad losses" or just vote straight # of losses?

Sano started for Athens last night and went three innings on a cool night on The Plains.

Struck out 7 of the first 9 batters he faced.

On the season: 5IP 0ER 13K's

This is one of the best Athens teams I have seen in recent years. I don't think they are on the the level of the teams that had the Hewitt brothers, but they are pretty good. Good luck Dogs

This Athens team has far better pitching. Probably the best Athens team since the 80's, back when Athens and Marietta had some dominant teams. Sano is the best pitcher in our area and also bats close to .600

Lol

There have been a few great teams since the 80's

Stricklin & Decaminada's team was 1990.

Gibby's last year with Chris Ford & Kyle Dean were as good as this years team, imo. Tough luck kept them out of the regionals.

1. Grant Gregory
2. Chris Hewitt
3. Phil Hewitt

Was a pretty good rotation, btw.

:)

I'll take Sano over any of those three. Sano vs Corrigan would be a good one

None of the teams will ever compare to the 1990 group Raider.

Senior league world series champions at age 15
American legion state champions at 18

Corey Corrigan (class of '89 - but was young enough to play with the class of 90 in summer ball) - Ohio University pitcher
Scott DeCaminada - 1990 - Ohio University pitcher
Kevin Scurlock - 1990 - played small college ball pitcher
Izzy Olvera - 1991 - pitched Athens into the regionals - small college pitcher
Scott Stricklin - 1990 - MAC freshman of the year at Kent State.
Brock Toadvine - 1990 - Ohio University left field

Pitched against Scurlock and Izzy....they were great. Izzy fanned 15 in Jackson I believe (he didn't get me 😀)....but in the 7th inning down 2-1 Stricklin gave me my only caught stealing of my lifetime. Threw me out from his knees....and had 3 of Athens 5 hits off of me. He owned me. I think he was 6/6 off me in our career matchups.

I remember Izzy Olvera. I played at Portsmouth High School. He beat us 1-0, I think the District finals, when Portsmouth was #1 in state
