Boys SOC Preview

Post by lovesoccer178 »

The Boys SOC Preview is this Friday the 16th at New Boston

Here are the matchups:

5:00 Burg vs St. Joe
6:00 West vs Waverly
7:00 Minford vs Clay
8:00 Northwest vs Valley
9:00 South Webster vs New Boston

It is nice to see Waverly join the preview this year. It might be the first time for this.

If you didn't hear about it, St. Joe joined the conference & South Webster moved to the SOC 2. Here are the new divisional groups:

SOC 1
Clay
New Boston
St. Joe
Valley

SOC 2
Minford
Northwest
South Webster
Waverly
West
Wheelersburg

At least the first time in a long time for Waverly, but possibly the first time ever.

West shouldve moved down in my opinion. On average they will be 2-8 at best

I don't disagree, but the problem is that they are D2 for the tournament and playing no D2 schools if the were in the SOC1 would be bad. In reality it probably doesn't make any difference and is the same thing as Northwest being in the SOC 1 for football.

It has been mentioned on here before, but I like the idea of the last place SOC2 team being sent down to the SOC1 and the SOC1 champ moving up to the SOC2 the following year.

16 game max schedule? Why not make it 1 SOC like girls.

It should rotate to a different school each year. Requirements for a school to host should be adequate parking, field lights, and a concession stand. Admission paid would be a good fundraiser for the host school’s soccer program. Also the same school cannot host both boys and girls previews in the same year. Just my opinion.

SOC preview at NB had such a tradition but facilities are becoming more of an issue. Might be time to take a look at another location.

Agreed. It's been a great run at New Boston, but it's time to move the preview around like SOC does with basketball.*

Agree. In the 80s the NB stadium was the premier facility in the area. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.

Saint Joe looked good against Burg. 0-0 played very evenly, then when both teams put their JV's in around the 25 min mark Burg gained the upper hand. Burg scored both of their goals in the last 5 min or so. If SJ improves on what they did here, I believe they are the team to beat in the SOC 1.
