After defeating north Adams on Saturday night ,the lady trojans make history by punching their ticket to the schools first trip ever in lady trojans history to the state tournament!
They will go face to face against a very very good ottawa- glandorf team.
This game will be played at the university of Dayton this coming Thursday March 14 at 8 pm

Portsmouth starts two freshman 1 sophomore and two juniors,so that makes this team that more special, they play with a lot of heart, fire and determination,a very very fun team to watch.

Great job lady trojans, players and coaches...job well done!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LADY TROJANS PLAYERS AND COACHES ON MAKING THE FINAL 4!! ANOTHER CHAPTER OF BASKETBALL HISTORY HAS YET AGAIN BE MADE AT PORTSMOUTH HS!!

Our Lady Trojans might just have the youngest starting lineup in the Final 4 in any division!! It's not common to see a Final 4 team that starts 2 freshmen. Ottawa-Glandorf will be a tough opponent, but the Trojans already have wins over Fairland and Shaker Heights Laurel, two teams that are playing in one of the two D2 semifinals.

9 of the last 11 decades a Portsmouth HS basketball team, either boys or girls, has made the state tournament. PHS is now 1 of only 3 schools in the SE district that has made the Final 4 in boys and girls basketball, and has a state championship in at least 1 of the 2. Eastern Meigs (Reedsville Eastern)made the boys Final 4 in 2001, while the girls won the D4 state in 2014. Oak Hill won the boys state title in 2009, and has 3 state runnerups in girls basketball. Portsmouth won the state in boys in 1931, 1961, 1978, and 1988, and made the girls state tournament in 2024.

Fairland boys made it in 2017 I believe and girls a few times

Mc1196: The Fairland Lady Dragons made the Final 4 in 2014, 2015, 2023, and now 2024. They haven't won the state title as of yet. The Fairland boys made the Final 4 in 1961 and 2017, and both teams lost in the semifinals. My point above is that Portsmouth, Eastern Meigs, and Oak Hill are the only 3 SE schools that have made the Final 4 in both boys and girls and have won the state in either.

What is particularly sweet about making the Final 4 is that not too long ago the Portsmouth Lady Trojans program was mired near or at the bottom of the OVC, with many games not being competitive. In fact it had been nearly 40 years since a district championship. Now Coaches Amy and Mike Hughes have taken this program to a brand new level, so much so that playing in the state tournament seemed a thousand miles away in just the recent past. We have a group of girls that have dedicated themselves to hard work, and they are now reaping the rewards of that hard work.

It will seem almost surreal to see our Lady Trojans take the court at 8:00 PM on Thursday in front of thousands of fans, far different that the scant following when times were tough. I'm quite sure that our Lady Trojans will be ready to play their best, and make all Trojan fans and alumni very proud.

GO LADY TROJANS!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Been following the lady trojans all I can for a while now,and it is GREAT to see how far this group has brought our program,it's all possible first of all because they have a lot of talent, and second because of the coaches,Amy and Mike both have already proven their coaching ability and after 5 short years at Portsmouth they have brought this program to the Final.four !

Got my ticket and ready for Thursday!

GO LADY TROJANS!!!

BasketballFan22: Thanks for the correction. I edited by previous post to include Oak Hill. There are now 3 SE schools that have made the state in boys and girls and have won a state in either:

Portsmouth: boys state appearances: 15.....state titles: 4(1931, 1961, 1978, 1988)......Girls state appearances: 1......state titles: 0
Oak Hill: boys state appearances: 1.....state titles: 1 (2009)......Girls state appearances: 3.....state titles: 0 (3 state runnerups)
Eastern Meigs: boys state appearances: 1 (2001).....state titles: 0....Girls state appearances: 2......state titles: 1 (2014)
