Lady Pointers remain undefeated in OVC conference play

SOUTH POINT, OH-The South Point Lady Pointers played their first game at the brand new Pointer gym on Thursday, December 20th against OVC conference opponent Chesapeake. The Lady Pointers were looking to remain undefeated in conference play as they beat River Valley and Fairland in the first two conference games of the season.

The game started with both teams swapping the lead back and forth. The opening quarter ended with a 12-11 South Point lead with freshman Jalynn Bradburn scoring seven of the 12 points. The second quarter saw more scoring, but the game remained tight as the Lady Pointers went into halftime with a 31-24 lead. To start the second half, the Lady Pointers came out very strong as they outscored Chesapeake 22-7 in the third quarter. From there, South Point carried a 20+ point lead for the remainder of the game to win 59-35.

Freshmen Kayla Fletcher and Jalynn Bradburn were again the South Point leading scorers as they put up 19 and 18 respectively. Sophomore Tinesha Taylor was third on Lady Pointer scoring with 9 points. With the win, the Lady Pointers with coach Dave Adams improve to 6-3 on the season and 3-0 in OVC conference play. South Point also won the JV game 27-18, with Ashley Goodall leading the Lady Pointers scoring with 17 points.

The Lady Pointers will next be in action on Thursday, December 27th for a home game against Oak Hill. The boys team will look to remain undefeated on the season as they host the South Webster Jeeps on Friday, December 21st. Got word that the fine Dentist Greg Prater is now an assistant Coach for South Point. No doubt this team will have the best smiles in the area.

Doc was a good player in his day. He could "worm" his way around the basket for a bucket in the clutch. He is also one of the finest guys I know.

Yeah he goes from freshman boys coach to girls assistant in the same season. don't know what happened there. The Freshman boys team was disbanded for whatever reason. heard it was because there weren't enough boys for varsity due to injuries. So they had to move the freshman up to JV. I know some parents are upset.
