Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio - Final Edition
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio - Final Edition
Unioto 48
Chillicothe 42 final
... "THE REMATCH" ... Chillicothe 64 Unioto 61 was LAST week's regular season final as the Cavs ended the Shermans' 55 game regular season win streak at Hatton Gymnasium ... as Coach Hoops for UHS said before the game tonight THIS is like the Duke vs N. Carolina rivalry BUT the 2 teams here are closer in proximity than the North Carolina interstate foes ... Tonights game had the drama of any "next level" tourney game - the winner moves on while the loser goes home ... one and done ... survive and advance ... however you say it or look at it THIS was a BIG game of D2 , interstate/county/almost intercity teams - the stakes being a D2 sectional championship and a gold ticket to the Convo in Athens next week to take on Vinton County in the first D2 District Semi- final game ... sometimes these "part 2" games don't live up to their billing - not so tonight as neither team ran away and hid ... Chillicothe jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on two Kristian Boltenhouse inside shots at the rim ... game on ! - the crowd was INTO the game ... UHS answered with an 11-0 run to take the lead for good , never to be behind the entire game ... Boltenhouse had 6 points in the quarter for the Cavs while the Shermans found Erique Hosley for 8 points in the paint ... add another 5 points by teammate Gabe Fisher ... the quarter ended Unioto 17 Chillicothe 10 after one ... Quarter 2 was a "wash" as both teams matched offensive output - both putting up 11 points in the 2nd frame ... Unioto got 2 buckets down low from Isaac "Bubba" Wheeler while the Cavs spread the wealth - Boltenhouse/Jordan Johnson/Matthew Benson with 2 each ... Unioto 28 Chillicothe 21 going into intermission ...
... In quarter 3 - Chillicothe shaved off 2 points from the Sherman lead ... Jordan Johnson drained a pair treys from behind the arc & Nathan Rosenbauer picked up his only points of the night on an old fashioned bucket & 1 ... UHS showed their hand by going into the paint to Wheeler for 3 third quarter buckets /Hosley added a bucket from the opposite side of the lane ... Unioto 36 Chillicothe 31 end of 3 ...
... the final 8 minutes saw the Shermans get separation - pushing the lead to 45-35 with 3:18 remaining with Wheeler/Hosley accounting for 3 in the paint baskets ... UHS would score only 3 more points the rest of the way on 3/4 FT shooting by Kennedy/Edler down the stretch ... Chilli would get the score to 38-45 at the 1:25 mark ... where it remained until Seth Barnes knocked down a triple from the corner to draw CHS to 41-45 ... the final points for either side were from the FT stripe as Unioto ran out the clock ... Unioto 48 Chillicothe 42 a final ...
... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Chillicothe
Scoring ... Kristian Boltenhouse 12, Jordan Johnson 10, Branden Maughmer 7, Seth Barnes 5, Nathan Rosenbauer 3, Simon Roderick 3, Matthew Benson 2
3-Pointers ... 4/16 ... Jordan Johnson 2, Simon Broderick 1, Seth Barnes 1
FT's ... 10/19
TO's ... 17
... a few more Napkin Stats that won't be in the paper ... Kristian Boltenhouse had 11 first half points only 1 in the last 2 quarters ... in crunch time of the final quarter K. Boltenhouse never touched the ball in the final 8 minutes other than at the foul line ... Unioto forced 2 Cavs turnovers to open the final 8 minutes - the Shermans made the Cavs pay both times with buckets on the offensive end stretching their 5 point lead at the end of the 3rd to 9 points after the opening 2 possessions of the 4th ...
... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Unioto ...
Scoring ... Isaac Wheeler 14, Erique Hosley 12, Gabe Fisher 7, Brandon Kennedy 7, Logan Swackhammer 5, Clay Edler 3
3 Pointers ... 2/10 ... Brandon Kennedy 1, Gabe Fisher 1
FT's ... 6/15
TO's ... 16
... Napkins stats plus : the Unioto BIGS accounted for 26 of the Shermans' 48 points ... UHS controlled Barnes in the rematch - Seth Barnes put up 25 points vs the Shermans in the first meeting last week ... tonight 5 points for Barnes ... Erique Hosley had a double double on the night - 12 points /15 rebounds ... let's add a monster block that looked like a hockey team icing the puck late in the game as the UHS Big Man swatted a shot attempt 3/4 court ... Cole Cottrill was in uniform tonight ! warmed up with his TEAM - took part in the pregame dunkfest by the Shermans ... I talked to CC briefly after the game - he is chomping at the bit to get back on the court ... best of luck to the Shermans of Coach Hoops as they take on Vinton County at the Convo Friday evening at 6:15 pm in the D2 District opener ! ...

Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio - Final Edition
One team out of 16 possible scored over 50 points at Southeastern. That's some serious defense being played.
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio - Final Edition
Good defense and some horribly tight rims.

... one of my 4 possible D3 Cinderella picks earned the gold ticket to the Convo ! Congratulations to Eastern Brown on their "W" over Portsmouth to earn their way to Basketball Thirty at the Convo !!! ... Coach Persin ALMOST got me my 2nd Cinderella story in D3 as he and the Oaks were a tough out for the youngsters of Coach Speed & Fairland ... fun stuff - I like trying to analyze what I've seen, trends going into the post season and seeing if I can come up with a possible "cinderella" play in for the Convo ... lovin' it !pfloyd wrote:On another thread - it was asked who were the Cinderella teams in D3 who have a chance to get to the Convo ... this was my response :
... I would say that these D3 Cinderella teams have a chance to make the trip to Basketball Thirty - would it be a surprise ? absolutely as they would need to have taken down an "on paper" favored team to earn their "golden ticket" :
Either Paint Valley or Eastern Brown would be a Cinderella appearance in the Convo as they would have to 1) get by each other 2) more than likely get by Portsmouth to earn their ticket ... Paint Valley has Dylan Swingle inside (6-8+) with his double/double game and Anthony McFadden's streaky outside shooting ... should PV get by EB the size inside could get them to the Convo with a one game win over Portsmouth ... Eastern Brown is your on court definition of TEAM (TJ Stivers/Marcus Day/ Nick Kelch/ Heath Unger/Mickey Hundley/Austin Doss/Charles Bellamy/Blake Rigdon) ...no stars but a collection of good high school basketball players who are coached by one of the best in the business in Coach Beucler ... it will be a difficult task to beat the size of PV to get to a game with Portsmouth that would give them a chance to get to the Convo BUT if they do survive the PV "big man" ... they will be all PHS can handle (PHS beat EB by 8 ... 64-56 in their midseason matchup) in the "play in game" to the Convo trip ...
Oak Hill ... the Oaks have Coach Persin at the helm - need I say more ? , they already eliminated South Point (which I had as a surprise winner in their matchup on paper) ... now the Oak Hill gang needs to get by a loaded Fairland team ... when you have Coach Persin courtside with his towel - a win over the Dragons would be a BIG surprise but not out of the question ... a win would make them a Cinderella story though in my book ...
Southeastern ... Coach Cox already guided the Panthers over the first hurdle with a W over Zane Trace in round 1 of the Waverly sectional ... Rd 2 has Southeastern taking on Lucasville Valley ... Valley IS a top 5 team Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line BUT they lost to Minford this past weekend while SE has won their last 2 outings (a double OT win over McClain to end the regular season , then last night's win over Zane Trace) throw in that they played the SEOhio #1 team Unioto to a very close 66-63 loss ... lots of confidence on the SE side of the court right now - seniors Justin Dye/Austin Kohn/Tyler Carroll would like nothing better than to make the trip to A'town ... would a Southeastern W be an upset ? absolutely BUT this IS the high school hoops one & done season ... no one gets style points , the goal is to survive and advance ... Southeastern definitely has an opportunity to move on to Basketball Thirty imo ...
... imo those are the D3 teams that have a legitimate chance at Cinderella status/underdogs BUT good enough to win their way to the Convo as well ...

This was confirmed by a maintenance man that works there, one of the rims is actually set higher than 10 feet. Not sure why it's never been fixed.Bronc21 wrote:Good defense and some horribly tight rims.
Between that and Logan not letting teams cut down the nets, the D2 hosts have some splainin to do

... Not sure WHY Logan didn't let Vinton Co or FU cut down the nets ?!!! ... I thought that odd myself when I left Friday night at the VC game ...

Nobody has ever cut down the nets at Jim Meyers. I remember questioning it after Athens beat LE Burrow's freshman year.
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio - Final Edition
Didn't understand why they couldn't cut the nets down either. It's not like Logan didn't make enough money over the week to buy a couple of nets.
Congratulations to the Falcons

Congratulations to the Eastern Brown Warriors and Coach Buechler on their sectional championship win over my Trojans. They outplayed us, plain and simple, but I'm still proud of our 16-8 season. I was very impressed with Lynchburg Clay......they remind me of the 2012 Valley Indians which featured a starting lineup of everyone 6-3 and taller. Portsmouth beat Valley 54-50 in the district championship that year with a big rally in the last 5 minutes. That was a very tough Valley team. Not only does Lynchburg have good size, but they have the athleticism to go with it.
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio - Final Edition
I agree . That's what coach Beucler brings every game. Tipoff to the final shot for the Eastern team. They scrap all the way. Lynchburg's overall height was a tough match up for my Peebles Indians Squad the last two years and they will have most of them back next year. Both teams are tough outs in the one and done.trojandave wrote:Congratulations to the Eastern Brown Warriors and Coach Buechler on their sectional championship win over my Trojans. Rodeo1: If Eastern plays in the district the way they did against the Trojans, they can play with anybody in the SE D3 field. According to the Waverly sectional program, Lynchburg has 9 seniors, most of which are key players.
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio - Final Edition
I hope you are right on the Lynchburg players ,but I'm pretty sure River Mullins is 10th grade,Geogardo(or however you spell it is 11th grader.trojandave wrote:Rodeo1: If Eastern plays in the district the way they did against the Trojans, they can play with anybody in the SE D3 field. Lynchburg Clay starts 1 sophomore ( McLaughlin), 2 juniors (Giordano and Mullins), and 2 seniors (Blankenship and Pierson) Key subs are seniors (Storer, Ahrmann and Inman) The other four seniors see very limited time.
