South Webster 71 Vinton County 60 a final from Tuesday night action

South Webster 71
Vinton County 60 a final

South Webster is one of, if not THE, most complete TEAMS no matter the division in the South East District ... Owen Mault returned to see action last night which gave SW a 7 man rotation but can easily go to 8 with Hunter Barnard off the bench who has filled in for Mault during his time off due to injury ... so the Jeeps have a more than adequate bench with Mault and Jack Timothy ... Timothy is a big body off the bench... 6-3 or 6-4 frame who knows how to use it around the blocks, he can go outside and handle the ball, get his double digit points and CAN without trying get you 20pts in a game and HAS ... not often you can get a "foreign exchange" student who fits the needs of TEAM - Timothy does that by giving SW a big body in the paint to go with Tyler Sommer (an all district performer) - with both Timothy and Sommer down inside it allows Eli Roberts to go to the perimeter without hurting the team in the process - they still have 2 strong board guys down low ... Timothy completes TEAM imo - giving Roberts, the coaching staff flexibility in the offense ... Roberts doesn't have to "force" being HIM ... he can use his talents/ all of them based on what the opponents are doing defensively ... you can try to take away Roberts but then you have to defend an ALL District - Sommer and a potential "All District performer" in Timothy ... and I HAVEN'T mentioned Brock Campbell or Dylan Shupert - they had a combined 18 points last night ... including Campbell's 3 triples ... Shupert/Campbell/Christian White are outstanding role players who can/could do more and on another team WOULD do more - but with the chemistry, make up of the Webster Team - they don't have to "force" themselves into having to score double figures per game, or have to knock down a bunch of 3's they CAN do ALL of that and when needed they DO all of that but it's in the flow of the offense which is based on how the opponent is defending the Jeeps ... as I've posted on other threads - Roberts is HIM this year ... Under Coach Persin he is letting the game come to him, stepping up when TEAM needs him to , his patience/shot selection this season makes him THE best player in SEO ... South Webster with Roberts and Timothy having his skill set/rebounding/size down low - it opens up the offense, lets Roberts be HIM without sacrificing anything down low - not many in the stands or on social media asking the question "Why isn't Roberts at 6-7 staying down in the paint?" the Timothy/Sommers combo down low means he doesn't have to be in the paint, opens up Roberts entire skill set...

Vinton County is another team with all of the pieces ... size (Allman & Hire) , 3 point shooters everywhere you look, Garrett Brown who can do it all with his build/shooting ability ... Cobra Sharp - shoots the 3 ball/ gets to the rim as well as any pg in SEO ... VC has an 8 man rotation ... well coached with Nj Kight courtside ...

... If you look at the opening quarter point spread VC 13 to SW 22 ... a closer look had the Vikings with 7 turnovers vs the Jeeps 3 ... Jeeps with 5/8 from three point land to open the game vs the Vikings 3/4 ... came down to shots on goal - the Jeeps took better care of the ball resulting in more shots on goal and if the person taking the shots is named Roberts (11pts in the first period) it's a fair bet it's advantage Jeeps on the scoreboard South Webster 22 Vinton County 13 after 1 ... in the 2nd period VC did what VC does - played D - turned the Jeeps over 4 times ... got scoring out of their rotation people - Reynolds with 5pts (1 trey)/Ashton Tritipo with a 3 off the bench as well ... Cobra Sharp added 9 points on his own ball including a triple and a pair of shots at the rim off of drives from the perimeter ... 6-6 Ashton Allman with 2 putback buckets in the paint 4pts in the quarter/8 in the half ... VC looked like the Viking teams that was 7-1 coming into this matchup ... for the Jeeps Jack Timothy came off the bench for 4pts in the paint/ Sommer add 2 pts and Roberts was held to 1 fg & 2/2 from the charity stripe ... 10 pts in the qtr for SW vs 23 by VC ... Vinton County 36 South Webster 32 at intermission ... the 3rd period was evenly played by the Vikings 10 pts vs the Jeeps not named Roberts 9pts ... VC 3 fgs to SW (minus HIM) 4 fgs (including Campbell's 3rd triple of the game)... BUT having HIM is THE difference - Roberts had 9 pts in the qtr getting where his 6-7 frame with length says he should be - in the paint - He "HIM" got into the paint for a pair of midrange jumpers and 2 fgs at the rim including an "& 1" ... SW reversed the intermission scoring spread taking a 4 pt lead into the final quarter ... South Webster 50 Vinton County 46 ... the final period had both teams with 3 take aways each ... no matter how you look at it Roberts IS the difference - as the Vikings put up 14 points (6 by Garrett Brown/Cobra Sharp 4 on a a pair drive to the bucket/ Hayden Reynolds 2/2 from the line) ... while the Jeeps mirrored the VC scoring output with Christian White/Dylan Shupert/Sommer with a fg each & 7/10 from the line between them - 13 pts ... good 4th quarter! until you add in the Roberts/HIM factor as the 6-7 junior swing forward had 8 points including a 2 handed slam ... 21-14 scoring advantage SW in the 4th ... South Webster 71 Vinton County 60 a final ...

By the quarter:
