This will be a tough schedule. 6 OCC teams listed on the Chief's schedule. Along with some other really good teams. They'll definitely be battle tested by the end of the year.

I’m honestly not confident in This season. I’m still upset about first round departure of tournament with the best team Logan has had here in over 20 years... I’m excited about the new kids on this stage but Coach Rider and staff still hurts!!!

Tough schedule for the Chiefs but the JV team last year was not bad. Coaching is going to be critical . Good luck Chiefs

This schedule is tough I think Myers will be really solid this year. I know I have quoted this before but coach Rider in my eyes needs to win build a program or just simply move on . Not sure his low key personality was the reason we didn’t bring it last year at tournament time.To much talent great facilities we can find a hoops leader that can make a difference.

No returning experience players so they better build on team concept this year . Will be a tough year with that schedule .

I think Myers will step up and be a double digit scorer

Chiefs beat Lancaster last night in the season and home opener, 50-47.

Sophomore Tegan Myers led the Chiefs with 21 points in his first start while senior Nolan Robinette added 10 points (including the go-ahead bucket in the last minute) with senior Justin Wolfe contributing 7 points and 11 rebounds.

Logan led 9-5 after 1, the game was tied at 21 at half, and the Chiefs led 38-37 entering the final quarter.

Not trying to take anything away from the Chieftains (always great for a young team to start off 1-0!) But, seriously Lancaster? More of the same in Gale land...

Lancaster no good?
I’ll need to provide some context, here.

Lancaster has 724 boys in grades 9-11, per the OHSAA. They compete in a grinder league, yes. For those who remember, way back, they had some dang good teams in the late 90’s and early/mid 2000’s. But for the past 10 years, Lancaster has been... not good. The product they’ve put out in the last decade has typically been several leagues below the standards of which a school that size should be putting out. It doesn’t matter who the coach is. That whole entire program from the top all the way down to the grade school ranks has ultimately failed in the way of talent cultivation, fundamentals preaching and the way to play basketball. No one with any meaningful presence in the community wants to come out and say it: they have no talent, and it’s because that district has absolutely failed the kids over the years with its lazy approach to hoops and failed systems over the years. Everyone knows it, no one wants to dare go against the grain however and call it out. Instead, every single freakin’ year there is always the narrative being pushed “they’ll improve this year”, “they’ll shock the naysayers” and it’s just the same lame-o excuses as to why their varsity basketball team hasn’t been worth a bucket of warm spit. They’ll say “well we play in the toughest conference in Ohio” and yeah true but they’re not competitive (let alone beating consistently) schools of similar size and way too often lately have they made an obvious push to “schedule wins” (their non-conference in recent years include D4 Caldwell, D4 Patriot Preparatory, D4 Kipp, D3 Southeastern etc.) The kids deserve better and it all starts with the power players in the Lancaster community to be honest with themselves in the public eye and admit there’s a huge problem. That’s the only path toward being competitive and respectable, and until that day comes they’re gonna keep losing to teams they in theory shouldn’t be.

Lancaster has been god awful for a long time now. They had some great teams back in the early 2000’s

Seems like they never recovered after the Mcknight brothers left. I remember one of them led them to the final four against some team from the Dayton area and they got beat. They might have had a good team after that but I don't remember it. I just looked it up. 2006 Lancaster lost to Trotwood 54-50 in the State Semi's. I'm surprised Greathouse doesn't help them a little. He was still pretty involved in the program last I heard even though he wasn't coaching. I don't know if he still up there in the community or not. Used to be on radio.

Don't know if there is anything to it, but I heard too many boys going to the other county schools.

The Lancaster program fell off a CLIFF when Greathouse left.

I remember growing up being so envious of the program Greathouse had built - both Lancaster and Zanesville were the gold standard of high quality big school basketball to the East/SE of 270.

Definitely in a sad state.

Still - good Logan teams have lost to BAD Lancaster teams in the past. And for a group of kids who basically have ZERO Varsity experience, it's an important step. Logan is going to struggle to put up a huge number of wins against their schedule, so putting getting the "W"s when they can will be important.

They had two sets of McKnight brothers if I remember right. One or two were closer to my age (late 90s/early 00s) and then the younger ones were like 04-06.

Interestingly, the McKnight's have family ties to Logan and of course Drew Swinehart, whose dad Gary was the long time head coach at Logan, was on that Lancaster team that made the Final Four as well.
