SOC1 2019-20

Post by Western24 »

What are everyone's thoughts on how these leagues will turn out. Some teams look to be down and rebuilding this season. The top seems obvious but wanted to see everyone's thoughts.

IMO:

New Boston
Western
Ironton St. Joe
Symmes Valley
Clay
Green
Notre Dame
East

Have not heard much about St. Joe, other than some say they are the second best team in this league? Anyone have any insight?

St.Joe lost only 1 Senior from last year and will have Ryan Payne for the entire season after sitting out 2nd half last year.
As far as 2nd best team i'm sure Western and Symmes Valley will have something to say about that. I do know they will be well coached and will play both hard and smart.

SOC 1 is New Bostons for the taking, so much talent.
SOC 2 will most likely be between Burg and Waverly with Oak Hill and South Webster being dark horse picks for some, although both are probably missing that one player to push them up into Burg-Waverly tier.

New Boston was the favorite to win the Soc, before what I heard is 5 kids transferring in.

I'm guessing somewhere around the following:

SOC 1

14-0 New Boston
11-3 Symmes Valley
10-4 Ironton St. Joe
8-6 Western
6-8 Clay
4-10 Green
2-12 Notre Dame
1-13 East

SOC 2

Oak Hill 14-2
Waverly 14-2
Burg 13-3
South Webster 8-8
Valley 8-8
Minford 7-9
West 5-11
Eastern 2-14
Northwest 1-15

I’ll guess OH loses 4-5 in league...I’ll give those wins to SW and Valley

I’ll be shocked if NB losses a SOC game, Waverly and Burg will duke it out for SOC II but the edge goes to Waverly IMO, they have best guard in the conference and Burg is not close to the team they were last year.

Maybe so... I think the league as a whole is down. Norm has a couple seniors that he's had for 4 years, one being Hammond who could very easily get player of the year in the league. If there's ever a year for Norm to pull his magic and win a league title with less talent, this is definitely it.

I agree with all of that
My Indians scrimmaged them Saturday. Both teams mismatched players each quarter. Norm has a good bunch.Hammond is a handful.Norm is working his magic again in my opinion.Norm worked alot of situations and Josh worked alot of youngsters to find his mix. Overall a good day for both squads.

I’ll say:

1. New Boston
2. St. Joe
3. Symmes Valley
4. Western
5. Green
6. Clay
7. ND
8. East

POY: Sexton, New Boston
COY: Cox, New Boston

New Boston should be a lock for Regionals but don’t see them having discipline to get past a team like Berlin Hiland or Grandview Heights. Also disappointed in their nonconference schedule. SOC 1 still a weak league overall especially at bottom.*

Good list Art, and I agree SOC 1 this year will be very weak at the bottom. There will be a big separation between the top few teams and the rest of the league.

After seeing and hearing some of the scores early in the season, I would say the run for 2nd place could come from anywhere. I still see Western, symmes, and st. joe battling for that second spot. However, Green has put together some nice wins but has a poor loss to clay. 2nd place is anyone's at this point.
