Wheelersburg Pirates 2019-20 Season

Post by Mad-Dogg »

Let’s get some thoughts on the 19-20 season. I’ve heard a few people talkin about a tall kid comin in this season. Anyone know anything about it

Haven't heart that. Perhaps you're thinking of the Maxie boy who's around 6'6" or 6'7"? He was on the team last year but didn't get many minutes.

Was at the Burg and GC football game last weekend and saw Truitt walking the track with a kid that I didn't recognize. Truitt himself looks like he has grown to about 6'5, maybe 6'6. The other kid walking with him was at least that tall, if not a bit taller. Not sure who he was or even if he is a student at Wheelersburg, just an observation. If so, there is a possibility that Wheelersburg could put 3 kids 6'5 or taller on the court at a time in Truitt, McCorkel, and Maxie. It's been a while since we have seen a lot of size apart of the Burg program.

Probably the Lawson kid banana. He has grown about 7 inches in the last year. Another junior who will probable earn some playing time this year.

If Matthew Miller is not able to play not sure who will run the point. Burg should be deep this year as they had a strong JV team last year. Some of those players got some varsity experience during Burg blowout games.

Going to miss watching Holden play as he was, IMO one of the best to ever play for the Burg.

Matthew Miller's timeline puts him back at the start of the season. Even if he chooses to take it easy, he'll only miss December. Truitt isn't 6'6, although the more people who believe that the better. Wheelersburg does have several kids with elite high school length, if I'd have to guess heights it'd be 6'7, 6'4, 6'4, 6'3, 6'3, and then a few kids at or near 6'0

should Miller not be ready at the start of the season there will be options. There are at least 2 or 3 that could play point guard if need be. This burg team will pretty deep I would expect. I could see them playing less early but as the season goes on the the football players get acclimated they could play 10-11 a game.

That’s why I said it the way I did. I was asked about it too and I said I hadn’t heard anything.

If you're talking about the tall kid at the Greenup game beside Truitt, he's been at Burg since grade school. He played JV last two years for Burg. If you're talking about a new transfer, I have not heard anything about that.

Wow. Pretty much all of December is on the road for this young team. Plus arguably 2 of their toughest games of the season is in that stretch with south point and Jackson. It will be interesting to see how burg young kids react to this early part of the season. Along with this is always the chance that several key players get a late start depending on how deep of a run the football team makes. They probably have at least 6 varsity players playing football and a few that play soccer. Coach ater I am sure will do a great job getting guys ready as he always does

Burg's main players not playing football, so playoff run shouldn't effect basketball team this year as much as it has in past. I still look for Burg to be near top of SOC II and likely back at the Convo. Outside shooting could be a question mark, but you know Ater will have them playing solid defense and rebounding.*

I would say at least 3 of their top 8 are playing football along with their only senior and then there are the sophomores who will push for playing time. So it will absolutely affect depth early Plus there is the question mark of their starting point guard so that’s 4 of the top 8 imo Will he be ready or won’t he. Lots of question marks. I agree with what your saying art. But with this team being so young the sooner they the entire team in and practicing the better with arguably some of the best teams they will face all year in December.

There was some news that Miller is unable to play any sports this year after sustaining that injury in football. Any validity to this?
