SE DII Sectionals combined this year?

Post by Treyman3 »

Anyone else hear this rumor that the 2 small sectionals will be combined into 1 large sectional seeded 1-18? Certainly will make things more interesting for the tournmant draw!

18 Teams in DII this year I believe, with only 1 team getting out, you'd have to win at least 4 to get to Regionals

Athens
Circleville
Courthouse
Fairfield Union
Gallia
Hillsboro
Jackson
Logan Elm
Marietta
McClain
Miami Trace
New Lex
River Valley
Sheridan
Unioto
Vinton County
Warren
Waverly

No way that they would do it with only one division, especially after turning the coaches down for the past decade on wanting it done.

I could be wrong, but I don’t see it happening any time soon.

It's a done deal, Dani.
Super sectionals in all divisions in the southeast district this winter.

Because baseball is not neutral site for sectionals, that may take a little longer to get done.

Athens at Hillsboro for a wed night 5:00 sectional game is a bit trickier. Lol

It can't be any worse for baseball than it is already, Sheridan hosted Washington Courtnhouse and Mcclain last year in sectionals.

That was 1 game.
Go to super sectional & you could have 5 or 6 like that. Lol

Several years ago South Point came up to Circleville for a sectional soccer game. It can be done.

Will the D2 Sectionals STILL be held on the neutral sites ie. Logan and Southeastern ? does being now a super sectional have the possibility of the "usual" teams at the "usual" sites being mixed ie. Unioto playing on the Logan court or New Lex playing at the Southeastern site ALL depending on the Sunday draw ? ...

What are the pros to this?
We are going back to an earlier time when you had to win at least 3 and sometimes 4 games to win a Sectional.
We quit doing that for a reason.
Travel will be a nightmare because we are talking about Winter not Spring or Fall.
I think you will see a drop in attendance.
The one thing I know for sure is there will be a lot less banners on schools walls.
Is that a good thing?

Yes to all that.

But sites are TBA right now. There may be some changes.

I don’t think that is the case. There will still be the same number of sectional champs. The difference is just that instead of saying these 10 teams can only play each other to send 2 to districts and these other 10 go over here to get two winners, all 20 could go against one another for the same 4 total spots (arbitrary numbers).

Assuming there is one district champion, most teams would have to win two or the worst teams three to win a sectional.

Enigmaxx if you are right then all they are doing is adding a lot of travel.
I would think that has to hurt attendance; at least by the higher seeds.
Parents will be reluctant to let their kids drive an hour and a half or more one way to watch a game and if it's viewed as a play in game they won't be inclined to go themselves.
If a kid is in an accident while making a two hour one way drive...there will be an outcry (rightfully so) to shorten the distances.
