EDUCATION AND/OR SPORTS , (CHECK ATTACHED PDF'S)

Post by FANOSPORTS »

The state of Ohio has for years had what they call "Edchoice" vouchers that are given (after an application process) to children in low income, disadvantaged poor performing public school districts (usually big city districts) that want to transfer to parochial or catholic schools and they keep expanding the number of poor performing schools yearly, elementary thru high school. The last data year I saw was 2015 when there were 255 schools in 31 counties (73 in Franklin county alone who do this) so kids can go to the school of their choice with the state paying for it with no out of pocket for parents. Most of the schools are in Cuyahoga, Montgomery, Franklin and Hamilton counties. Imagine that !!!!! This leads to a big problem in sports inequality @ high school level in Ohio.

So a kid who lives on Livingston Avenue or in the Hilltop in Columbus wants to get out and attend a school with better academics (and a much safer environment) shouldn’t be allowed to because they live in a city? This feels borderline to very racially charged.

If the state is willing to help a kid get a better education and it doesn’t cost that lower income kid or their family anything, then why are we against it? Oh, because once a year our rural schools get beat by one of them? This is laughable and embarrassing.

Nope, the educational aspect is fine , an upgrade and great for the kids. As far as much safer environments , during school hours yes but most inside the outerbelt today (DeSales, Hartley, Bishop Ready, Africentric and Eastmoor Academy) are in less than desirable neighborhoods with a lot of crime and other problems. Others such as Bishop Watterson on high street N of Clintonville and Harvest Prep near Canal Winchester are a little better. I've been to tons of sporting events involving all these schools and had neighbors, teammates, friends and co-workers for decades who attended or had children attend all the aforementioned schools so this is in no way, shape or form a racial post. My only point is the schools in metro areas hold the trump card for kids that go to these schools for athletic purposes over most others in the state with all the different resources and ways & means they have at their disposal, no more no less.
