Sheridan 55
New Philadelphia 53 in OT a final ...

What a great ending to the 3 Weeks of the Convo & Basketball :30 !!! the finale sending one of our OWN the Sheridan Generals to the Final 4 in C'bus from the SE District/Regional in D2 ... going OT made it that much more "basketball Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line ending worthy" ... what a great game by both teams ... New Philly played the same as they did vs Zane Trace ... a team that you can never really "put away" as quoted by Coach Maddox tonight " a team that bends but doesn't break" ... they seem to hang around , hang around waiting for their moment to pounce/take advantage of what is given to them ie. get a turnover, get a bucket or 2 in transition/ a triple or 2 ... turning what was being behind by a couple to being in front by a couple of possessions ... they did it vs Zane Trace in the regional semi , were right there to do the same tonight vs Sheridan ...

... NP opened the scoring with a backdoor alley oop from Jent Joseph to Noah Begue take the lid off for the Quakers ... Nate Voll followed with a triple for NP ... Sheridan had the decided advantage in the paint IF they could get the ball down low - easier said than done BUT in the opening quarter SHS was able to find their BIGS in the paint - Grant Heilman established that HE was going to be a difference maker on the blocks for Sheridan (4 points in the 1st qtr) ... Luken Hill added 2 while his running mate on the wing Landen Russell added a deuce ... the floor general for SHS Ethan Heller added a trey - it turned out to be the ONLY trey of the game for the sharp shooting 2 guard and his only fg in the first 3 quarters of action ! ... to counter NP offensively did what we expected - work hard to get open looks on the perimeter ... NP put up 6 treys in the first finding the range on 2 (one each by Nate Voll(6 pts) and Jent Joseph(5 points in the 1st) ... the Quakers were able turn the Generals over 2 times in the opening quarter with points at the other end on both ... New Philly 15 Sheridan 11 after one ... the 2nd period was highlighted by defense as SHS held NP to 5 points in the quarter while the Generals were able to get the ball inside to Heileman who added 5 pts (3 on a righthanded 1/2 hook for an inside the paint 2 &1) ... the NP defense held Ethan Heller to 1 pt. in the 2nd /4 total for the half ... off the bench Nate Johnson drained a 3 pointer from the left corner for SHS ... NP's 5 points ( a trey by Noah Begue/2 from Brock Chumeny) had them trailing going into halftime Sheridan 22 New Philly 20 at intermission ... the 3rd period opened with NP taking control of the game ... turning the Generals over 3 times ... a mid range jumper by Jent Joseph off the right elbow and a Noah Begue triple gave NP the lead and started an NP 11-0 run ... giving the Quakers a 31-22 lead ... separation & control ... both teams traded empty trips ... SHS got a block by Heileman that ignited the Generals ... Luken Hill took the ball on the blocks for 2, followed by Russell on the drive baseline for 2, and finally Luken Hill transition bucket before the buzzer - all in the last :59.6 seconds of the 3rd - game on !!! Sheridan 30 New Philly 31 after 3 ... the 4th opened like the 3rd period with Jent Joseph putting the Quakers up with a midrange jumper followed by a wide open trey from the top of the key timeout SHS 6:09 to play NP 36 Sheridan 30 ... Sheridan went to their money in the paint Grant Heilman 3 straight trips for buckets in the paint but SHS was losing ground with baskets from Joseph/Voll//Chumney 4:36 NP 44 SHS 36 ... Sheridan turned NP over 4 times down the stretch ... 3:00 on the clock it was an all out scramble by the Generals - trapping the ball everywhere ... Ethan Heller who had been held to 4 points/no fgs in the 2nd or 3rd periods picked up 2 fgs down the stretch ... both teams missed FTs in the final period that would have won the game in regulation ... Sheridan 2/5 from the line ... NP 4/7 but more importantly NP missed the front end of 1 & 1's with less than a minute on the clock ... Sheridan in the last 4:36 outscored NP 10-2 ... with the final Sheridan points coming with :42 on the clock in regulation a BIG TIME putback basket by Landen Russell in the paint to tie the score at 46-46 ... momentum to Sheridan ... the Quakers were reeled in ... 46-46 at the end of regulation ... Overtime ... who do you go to when you NEED to get the lead in the biggest game of your teams season ? Mr. Heller is as good as anyone ... Heller down the left side of the lane for an off balanced lefthanded kiss off the glass -Sheridan took the lead 48-46 ... Joseph 1/2 from the FT line 48-47 ... Heileman in the paint for 2 ... Sheridan 50-47 with 1 minute to play in OT ... this one was now a "who's going to make/miss FTs as fgs were done ... Sheridan finished up 5/8 from the line with BIG BIG FTs coming from Costa Coconus ... the SHS PG had no fgs in the semi's and no fgs tonight but dropped 2/4 from the line in the last :16.9 seconds ... the first putting SHS up 53-51 ... the second with the score at 54-53 :5.4 on the clock to make the final score and margin 55-53 Sheridan as an off balance shot from the perimeter was waaay off the mark for NP ... Sheridan 55 New Philly 53 a final ... the Generals are going to the D2 Final Four ! ...

... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - New Philly

Scoring ... Jent Joseph 21 , Nate Voll 11, Noah Begue 8, Brock Chumney 6, Caden Richmond 5, Mitchell Stokey 2

FTs ..... 12/16
TOs ... 10
PnP ... 10 fgs/20 points in the paint
PnT ... 4 fgs/ 8 points in transition

... as I posted above NP seems to bend but not break/hanging around within 1 or 2 possessions never letting their opponent out of reach ... lying in wait to take advantage of any opportunity ... NP had this one ! up by 44-36 with 4:36 on the clock in the 4th ... unable to close it out committing 4 TOs down the stretch/ a couple of missed "layups" in the final 2 minutes of play and the 2 front ends of 1 & the bonus from the stripe ... Jent Joseph did an outstanding job on SHS's 30 point per game shooting guard Ethan Heller (14 points) ... great season for NP ...

... Pfloyd's Offiical "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Sheridan

Scoring ... Grant Heileman 20, Ethan Heller 14, Luken Hill 8, Landen Russell 8, Nate Johnson 3, Costa Coconus 2!
3 pointers ... 2/8 ... Ethan Heller 1, Nate Johnson 1
FTs ..... 13/19
TOs ...... 11
PnP ... 18 fgs/ 36 points in the paint
PnT ... 2 fgs/4 points in transition

... Sheridan HAD TO go inside in this one - BIGS were THE advantage for SHS (Luken Hill/Grant Heileman/Landen Russell) ... after 1 the BIG 3 had 8 of the SHS 11 points ... at the half 15 of 22 (I scribbled "Get the ball inside! BIGS! on my Napkin Stat sheet) ... through 3 qtrs . the BIG 3 had 23 of 30 ... at the end of regulation 34 of 46 ! and after OT ? the Sheridan Advantage in the paint with their BIG 3 ... 36 points of the team's 55 ... in OT the Generals put the ball in the hands of their go to guy Ethan Heller ... EH put up 10 points in the final qtr plus OT ( 5 points each) ... more importantly his first 2 in OT put the Generals on top ... not chasing, kept the momentum going for Sheridan while adding to the NP pressure to score each time down court ... Great game !!! pfloyd wishes the Generals the best as Sheridan travels Above the Lancaster-Dixon Line to represent the SE District at the Show in C'bus ...

Tough matchup upcoming against a very talented Columbus South team but it’s not impossible.. Sheridan is very good with plenty of size and a stud in Heller. As long as they can stay disciplined against South they will have a shot, but it will be no easy task.. South was one of the best teams in Columbus this year regardless of division

A crushing loss for new Philly. Congrats to Sheridan. 2 fine teams and now must find a way to compete in Columbus against the big boys. Good luck 👍

Congratulations to the Sheridan Generals on their regional championship........being in the Final 4 at the Schottenstein Center will be a real treat for their team and fans. Cherish the experience, it's something you will never forget. It's one thing to go to the state tournament, but it's even better when you see your team take the floor.

When my Trojans made it in 2011 and 2012, I was overjoyed to see Portsmouth High School represented at the state. We didn't win either year, finishing runnerup in 2012, but I left the Schott very proud of the Trojans and very proud to be a Trojan.
