Circleville 58
New Lexington 57 a final ...

... Excellent "play in" game last night !!! Coach Cassidy's Tigers came from behind TWICE to beat the MVL New Lex Panthers in overtime to survive & advance in the Logan D2 Sectional ... Roundtown 58 New Lex 57 OT final ...

A tale of 2 halves of action - as the first quarter was the New Lex "underclassmen" - Brady Hanson(so) 4pts/Logyn Ratliff(so) 2pts/Will Stenson(jr)3 pts vs C'ville (sr) Darcell Pickett 5 pts with a a supporting deuce by sophomore guard Riley Gibson (2pts) ... neither team was able to get much started from behind arc as the Tigers went 0/4 from downtown, New Lex was not much better at 1/6 ... New Lex 9 Circleville 7 after 1 ... the 2nd quarter belonged to CHS's Jay Styers (sr) as he was the lone scorer for Coach Cassidy in the quarter dropping 4 fgs from inside the paint (8pts)... NL was held to 1 fg in the period a triple by Trey Givens (3pts) ... the Panthers went 1/7 from the 3 point line on the qtr ... Circleville 15 New Lex 14 at the half ... Quarter 3 had both teams trading baskets with NL led by their sophomore duo of Hanson & Ratliff ... Brady Hanson went off for 12 points in the quarter on 3 straight three pointers, getting in on the 3 point party Ratliff added his own triple to make it 4 straight treys from downtown for the Panthers ... the Tigers countered with put back baskets by the seniors Pickett & Styers before a time out at the 3:15 mark showed NL up 28-23 ... CHS closed the gap on NL the Tiger's own soph's (Gibson/Justice) added a pair of 3's ... New Lex 31 Circleville 29 end of 3 ... New Lex kept the lead the entire 4th period on the strength of 4 pts from Logyn Ratliff, a couple fgs from Ben Stenson and 10/12 from the FT line shooting as a team ... the last 9 points of the 4th for NL were all from the line ... the Tigers chasing for 8 minutes in the 4th were paced by senior big man Jay Styers 15 points ... 3 triples with the final three ball from behind the arc on the right wing ... trailing 48-51 ... :04 seconds on the clock ... in bounds pass to Styers, back to the bucket, turned/squared up with defender in his face (HOF Coach Matt Hoops sitting beside me called the shot good as it left Styers' hands) - the senior hit nothing but net as the buzzer sounded ... Circleville 51 New Lex 51 ... end of regulation ... OT , New Lex vs Circleville , MVL vs MSL ... in crunch time you want to believe that your go to guy(s) are going to be your senior - Jay Styers (nails the triple to tie the game in regulation) ... overtime/survive and advance season/ a one and done game - New Lex went 4/6 from the line while CHS senior Darcel Pickett was fouled, drained 2 FTs ... 55-53 Panthers ... senior Jay Styers for CHS already with 25 points and the tying bucket finishing up 4 qtrs of action drained another 3 ball with :28.4 on the clock ! Circleville with lead 56-55 ... New Lex senior Ben Stenson with a put back bucket for the Panthers! NL on top 57-56 :05.8 on the clock time out Round Town boyz ... the theme down the stretch has been seniors - seniors stepping up - CHS Styers 28 points ( a triple to send it OT)/a big 3 IN overtime ... New Lexington's Ben Stenson - a senior - with the big put back basket to give New Lex the lead with under 6 seconds on the play clock ... enter CHS senior Darcel Pickett - takes the inbound pass, drives to the right elbow, hits a contested medium range shot for the win as the buzzer went off ... Circleville 58 New Lexington 57 in OT a final ...
