Logan 71
Athens 46 a final

... Senior Night at Jim's Gym, Athens vs Logan - doesn't get much better ... the tone for the night was set in the first 2 games of the night as Logan's freshmen beat Athens 55-16 ... followed by Coach Walsh's JV Chieftains getting win #2 on the night 53-35 ... Logan picked up the night's tri-fecta using a time tested strategy - Big Time TEAM defense and a large helping of Bo Myers on the offense end ... the combo has worked all season - tonight vs SE District foe Athens was no different - Athens had no answer for Bo Myers - Myers put up 30+ points for the 4th consecutive game - a career high 37 tonight ( in a game that Bo matched Athens through 3 quarters on his own scorecard - through 3 quarters Athens 35 Bo Myers 35 ... it WAS that kind of night for the Bulldogs ... the Logan defense made it difficult for the Athens offense to find/get into any flow throughout the game ... the strength of the Athens offense - the inside game was disrupted repeatedly by Logan's quick hands, quick feet, help defense in the paint kept Athens from getting much inside ... when PG Elijah Williams went out with an ankle injury the Bulldogs lost their perimeter speed and the ability to get inside via dribble penetration ( William's tested the ankle coming out of the locker room at intermission - couldn't go ... hoping he is able to go tomorrow vs Jackson BUT my guess is Coach Cozart will leave that up to EW or will hold him out until the post season matchup next week vs Logan Elm - wishing EW the best ...

... neither team scored in the first almost 2 minutes of the game - Logan playing it's usual man defense while Athens was in it's familiar 3-2 matchup zone ... within the next 2:09 of game clock Bo Myers pushed the Chiefs out to a 10-4 lead - draining a pair of three pointers from waaaaay downtown to get things started, by the time the first quarter dust cleared Bo Myers had put up 14 points ... 7 points from the supporting cast (Layton Cassady added a triple, and the Bell boys put up 2 points each) ... Athens countered with a pair of putback buckets by Justin Hynes, single baskets by Elijah Williams/Logan Maxfield/Brayden Markins ... Logan took an 11 points lead, Athens got no closer ... Logan 21 Bo 14 Athens 10 end of 1 ... the second period Athens junior big man Isaiah Butcher found the bottom of the net 4 times with nice medium range shots from the right elbow extended ... Eli Chubb added 5 points in the period for Athens ... not nearly enough to close the gap as Logan added more separation via the long ball - 3 triples by Bo Myers in the first quarter/Cassady 1 was followed up with 3 more treys in the 2nd - Myers put up 9 more points including 1 triple/ three pointers by teammates Caleb Bell and Layton Cassady extended the Logan lead heading into intermission to +15 ... Logan 38 Bo 23 Athens 23 at intermission ... Athens without E. Williams on the perimeter/handling the ball struggled both offensively (only 12 points in the 3rd) and defensively trying to slowdown the Logan offense & Bo Myers - didn't happen as Logan put up 25 points in the quarter/Bo kept pace with the Bulldogs offense adding 12 of his own while the rest of the Purple added to the lead - Caleb Bell 5 points, Coby Bell 4 pts, Landon Little off the LHS bench added 2 points in the 3rd ... Logan 63 Bo 35 Athens 35 after 3 ... the 4th period Coach Rider ran in the Logan bench after Bo scored on a spin move on the baseline for his final 2 points of the night with 4:32 to go in the game putting Logan up 65-39 ... the 2 points pushed Bo's point total for the game to 37 - a new career high ... the highlight of the 4th was a perfect feed to JV Nolan Robinette who made a two handed catch & slam for the Chiefs ... this one was over ... Logan 71 Bo 35 Athens 46 a final ...

... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Athens

Scoring ... Isaiah Burcher 10, Eli Chubb 7, Justin Hynes 7, Brayden Whiting 5, Josh Mace 4, Brayden Markins 4, Gauge Penrod 3, Logan Maxfield 2, Elijah Williams 2, Andrew Steven 2

3 Pointers ... 0/10
FTs ... 6/11
TOs ... 19
PnP ... 16 fgs/ 32 points in the paint
PnT ... 1 fg/ 2 points in transition

... Athens could never get into a flow in the game - the Logan defense IS "THAT" good ... the 25 point spread is legit - Logan IS that much better than the TVC Ohio Champion ... Athens to be successful in the the post season will NEED Elijah Williams back on the court ... the Bulldogs will have a BIG size advantage vs LE in the sectional tournament next Friday back at Jim's Gym ...

... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Logan

Scoring ... Bo Myers 37, Caleb Bell 12, Layton Cassady 6, Coby Bell 6, Landon Little 4, Wes Brooks 2, Nolan Robinette 2, Jordan Castle 2
3 Pointers ... 9/23 ... Bo Myers 5, Caleb Bell 2, Layton Cassady 2
FTs ..... 6/7
TOs ... 10
PnP ... 17 fgs/ 34 points in the paint
PnT ... 4 fgs/8 points in transition

... Logan goes to 6-1 vs Southeast Ohio opponents ... a BIG matchup with Warren at the WarriorDome Saturday night - both teams coming off of Friday night games - Warren went into Chillicothe knocking off the Cavs 50-48 Friday night ... for those who are wondering WHO is the best player in the SouthEast District - Bo Myers IS the best of the best - end of story ... Logan with a W at Warren Saturday - that is NOT a given with the BBB win vs Chillicothe ... a W would go a long way to putting Logan BACK in the #1 spot in the Elite 8 rankings ...

Great rundown as always pfloyd. Great game by the Chiefs. Amazing energy in Jim’s Gym. Hoping to keep that up Monday night and into the tournament.

I got to witness the greatest girls basketball player in Logan history break her individual scoring record on senior night vs Athens. (Katie dropped 50 on us that night)

I got to witness one of the best boys basketball players in Logan history break his individual scoring record on senior night vs Athens.

Isn't that just swell.

Ugh
