Logan 71 Sheridan 61 a final

Logan 71
Sheridan 61 a final

Wow ! Double Wow !! two outstanding TEAMs going at it for 32 minutes ... 2 outstanding individual players for their respective teams going at it for 32 minutes ... a great formula for an outstanding high school basketball game AND IT WAS !!!

Sheridan led by the sharp shooting lefty guard Ethan Heller established themselves early on going out to a 6-0 lead before Logan responded with 3 straight triples 1 each by Caleb Bell/Layton Cassady/Coby Bell ... Heller showed why he IS one of the best pure scorers/shooters in SEOhio as he led the Generals with 12 points in the opening quarter - you name a way to score Heller did it - 2 drives into the lane for 4 points , 2 triples from downtown and a couple FTs for good measure ... the defense on both sides was tenacious as both teams forced opponent TO's - Logan with 4 TOs/Sheridan was turned over 6 times by the LHS defense ... a big concern was that Sheridan was getting multiple shots on goal/controlling the boards (2 putback buckets in the first period)... Logan's all time leading scorer Bo Myers added 4 points in the 1st ... Sheridan 16 Logan 15 after 1 ... the 2nd quarter had both teams trading buckets Ethan Heller continued to lead the Generals from the floor with 8 points (2 more triples- with the last a 3/4 court final shot of the half with time running out) EH ended the half with a game leading 20 points in the first 2 periods ... Logan was led by Myers' 4 points in the quarter 2 of which were a transition dunk before he picked up his 2nd personal foul which had him on the bench to end the period ... Tegan Myers for Logan took what most thought was the final shot of the 2nd qtr. draining a 25 foot trey (only to be 1 upped by Heller's 3/4 court bomb)... Sheridan 29 Logan 28 at intermission ...

Intermission Napkin Stats:

Ethan Heller (Sheridan) 20 points ... 4 threes in the half
Bo Myers (Logan) 8 points ... 0 treys/2 person fouls/ 1 dunk

... the 3rd period had Sheridan continue with the 3-2 matchup zone in the half court, while committing to fullcourt pressure for the 32 minutes ... Logan continued to play man 2 man pressure defense /working hard to try to take the ball out of Heller's hands ... Logan went on a 22-11 run in the 3rd to get separation - led by Bo Myers 16 points in the period with deep support from Layton Cassady's 2 triples ... the quarter highlight reel play was a Bo Myers taking the ball away from a Sheridan offensive player at midcourt/going the distance for a 2 hand transition slam followed seconds later by a Layton Cassady bomb from downtown ... the Logan D played outstanding help defense in the 3rd - holding Heller to 4 points ... Logan 50 Sheridan 41 after 3 ... entering the final period I jotted down on my napkin stat sheet "Heller Time" - Ethan Heller didn't disappoint as the senior attacked the rim for 2 straight buckets followed by a triple ... Costa Coconus added 6 points with drives baseline ... treys by Landen Russell and Nate Johnson gave Sheridan a 20 point quarter ... Logan had the clock as a friend, along with a 9 point lead that forced the Generals to come out of their zone and play man 2 man D , as well as THE best player in SEOhio - Bo Myers ... Myers matched Hellers 8pts + 1 ... with the clock running down the Generals had to put the Chiefs on the line - Caleb Bell took care of business going 7/8 from the FT line ... the final seconds were a snap shot of the entire game - Bo Myers broke loose for his 3rd transition dunk - a one hand slam ... followed by an Ethan Heller triple from 30 feet - Perfect ending to an outstanding game ... Logan 71 Sheridan 61 a final ...

Pfloyd's Official "unoffical" Napkin Stats - Sheridan

Scoring ... Ethan Heller 32 , Landen Russell 10, Luken Hill 7, Costa Coconus 6, Nate Johnson 5, Shay Taylor 1
3 Pointers ... 9/21 ... Ethan Heller 6, Landen Russell 2, Nate Johnson 1
FTs ... 8/13
TOs .... 18
PnP ... 11 fgs/22 points in the paint
PnT ... 0 points in transition

... great game by Sheridan - excellent TEAM ... Grant Heileman 6-7 went through pregame with the Generals/ his # was on the scoreboard/ then scratched right before tipoff - a difference maker? ... the Generals stayed in their 3-2 matchup zone for most of the game forcing the Chiefs to score from outside as the zone made it tough to get into the paint ... looking forward to seeing Sheridan at full strength in the post season next week back at Jim's Gym in Logan ... as I posted during my game updates - Ethan Heller is one of the THE best scorers of the ball in SEOhio - outstanding shooter from the perimeter forces opponents to come out to guard him which makes him twice as dangerous as he is soooo quick off the dribble he gets into the paint and finishes - excellent ball player ... I wish the Generals the best in the post season ...

Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Logan

Scoring ... Bo Myers 35, Layton Cassady 14, Caleb Bell 10, Coby Bell 7, Tegan Myers 3, Wes Brooks 2
3 Pointers ... 10/23 ... Layton Cassady 4, Bo Myers 3, Caleb Bell 1, Coby Bell 1, Tegan Myers 1
FTs ... 15/21
TOs ... 9
PnP ... 11 fgs/ 22 points in the paint
PnT ... 4 fgs/8 points in transition (3 of which were dunks by Bo Myers)

... with Bo Myers and Layton Cassady being highlighted offensively ... I have to give props to the TEAM defense of the Chiefs - outstanding help defense especially in the 2nd half (after LHS was being beaten badly on the boards, Bo Myers & Co. brought the numbers closer in the last 2 periods) ... hands/bodies on bodies/altering Sheridan shots around the rim/turning SHS over 18 times on the night- Landon Little/Wes Brooks/Caleb Bell/Coby Bell/Bo Myers/Layton Cassady/Tegan Myers - TEAM D ... the 8 points out of the transition game was a big swing in the game & momentum ... playing vs the Sheridan 3-2 matchup zone tonight will go a long way in helping with preparation for Senior Night as Athens with THEIR 32 minutes of - wait for it - a 3-2 matchup zone ... comes to Jim's Gym to take on the Purple ... Logan goes to 5-1 vs teams from the SE District Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line ... Athens Friday @ home before going to Warren on Saturday night finish out the regular season ...
