So here is a question. Would or should Naylon Yates still have won POY last year if his team would have been 3rd in the league?

Absolutely because Player of the year is an individual award. The team with the best record wins the title and it should not mean that the team with the best record should automatically have the player of the year on that team. Player of the year is an individual award- an individual award! Are you telling me if Zack Loveday was still at Gallia Academy and his team was third in the league that he wouldn’t be player of the year as the number one recruit in this entire area? You can’t! When your team plays an opponent, say Athens, is their coach looking at one individual Athens players to shut down each time? No because Athens has more then one player who can play and not one stands out much more then the other. When the opposing teams play Meigs - who is the one player they want to stop, want to double up on, who is the one they don’t want to have to the ball ? Baer!

Would you say POY should strictly go on PPG then? Cause it seems like it most always does.

That wasn’t the question I asked. Answer the question. Should defense be considered or strictly PPG?

Are you saying Baer is not a complete player?

I never said that. I am just asking for discussion. I hear about his PPG but honestly don’t know how he does on defense. Personally I think all statistics should be considered. I should have paid more attention to how he does everything else on the court in his games against Athens. I am a Weston Baer fan, believe me.

Whether or not we want to admit it or not, most of the time the POY and the COY usually does go to the team that wins the league, not always 100%, but at least 90%. Sometimes it might even be hard to be objective about certain players, when we normally see the teams and players that we are fans of much more often. It also seems as if the coaches voting may be inclined at times to give it to an upperclassmen, knowing that the other kid will have a chance the following year. I've seen every kid that has been mentioned, some more than the others. Every one of these kids have had great games, sometimes average games. I'm as neutral as anyone could be when it comes to these kids and these teams. If I was picking a team tomorrow, Weston Baer would be my 1st pick. Do I think he will win POY ? No, I think it will go to one of the Athens players, and I'm okay with that.

Congrats to POY Weston Baer for scoring his 1000th point this evening versus River Valley.

Just in case you boys deadlock today. :)

The Bartley boy from Falconland is 9 points from setting the single season scoring record and made 80 3's while shooting 42% from 3 land.
He has a boatload of assists too.

I'd say Weston Baer is the odds on favorite in Vegas.
Maxfield, Arbaugh & Kearns with good value at 10:1.

Lol
