Valley at Waverly 12/14

Post by smurray »

Waverly struggled early at Northwest last night before they got rolling to a comfortable win.
Valley beat South Webster who was without one of the top players in Southeast Ohio in Blevins.

Will Valley be able to handle the pressure Waverly brings and will it wear them down?
Waverly needs some consistent scorers in addition to Robertson. Missing shots from within 3’ of the basket and FT’s has plagued the Tigers the past two games - have to be able to knock those down..... looking for the Tigers to win this game and not look ahead to next Tuesday - Tigers cannot afford to overlook anyone (last night proved that).

I have seen both and Waverly is more athletic but Valley is a little more disciplined. Robertson will be the best player on the court, no doubt. I think Valley can handle some of the pressure but I don't trust their ability to consistently score. I'd go with:

Waverly 61
Valley 48

Waverly by 15. Pressure gonna be too much for Valley. The Indians are definitely improving.

Waverly will be without a key player in Wolfe. That will hurt the Tigers for sure.

That would be a tremendous loss for the Tigers. I said in a previous post that someone needed to step up and be the leader on the floor. I think Easton did just that Tuesday night. Waverly needs to start out better than they have the last two games.

Tigers by 15

Horton seems to have done a good job thus far. You have to figure if he used just a little from both head coaches he worked under that he would do well.

With many games these days relying so much on the 3, it was kind of cool to see a game that really took place in the paint. I thought Valley hurt us inside early, but Dunn and Smallwood really played well together down the stretch. I love watching bigs pass to each other in tight quarters, and Dunn had some great ones.

Indeed, good to see those guys step it up with Wolfe gone.

Yes it sure was. I thought Shoemaker and Marquez both played solid, and I Trey did a good job of not forcing it even though he wasn’t scoring as usual. Valley did a nice job of denying him, which created some space inside and we did a pretty nice job of attacking the paint. Remington and Shoemaker just hound you and take a lot of energy out of the other teams’ ball handlers.

Great to see Tanner step up. Great physical matchups underneath will have him prepared for Tuesday’s matchup.

Yes, Tanner played very well. He is a huge key to how far this team will go.
