Warrens pressure defense was way too much for Meigs. That about sums it up.

Final Warren 68 - Meigs 27 - heard Meigs big scorer was out with broken ankle, lost another starter in first quarter. JV game was ugly 70+ to 15 or 20

Meigs had 2 starters out to start game, Mattox and Baer, Darst started but was limited by an ankle injury suffered on Tuesday and then Bartrum went out in 1st period.

So after Bartrum went out.in 1st period there wasn't a player on the court that seen any varsity time last season.

Mattox can't catch a Break. And neither can Meigs for that matter.

Total rebuilding year for Meigs. Injuries have decimated them. Just take it on the chin, play the young kids and get them ready for next year. Probably win 2-4 games this year.
Talent and experience not there.

Once the injured are healed, they will certainly win more then 2-4 games.

I saw on another post where the one guard for meigs was going to break the ankles of gallipolis and southern players guarding him. So someone must have did a role reversal. But if you're relying on 2 players to get you through the year it's going to be a long season.
I don't know where the blame lies when other kids are not getting any varsity playing time.

I guess meigs will have to wait until they are "healthy" to see if they can start winning.

It is not that Meigs kids don’t get varsity playing time. In fact, one kid was goIng to start on Friday and then quit!
(Don’t get that one at all!). The problem is that doors were closed to basketball early. All the eggs are put in the basket of those who were “stars” in grade school. So, kids stop growing and lose interest in basketball and get into other things, be it others sports, girls, drugs, etc. Then, you look at Meigs senior class and only one kid is playing. Coach Frye is paying the price for ultra competitive Dads who wanted kids to play better competition instead of teaching fundamentals and burning them out.

I understand that. Seems like that is happening at a lot of schools. Never heard about another kid quitting. Wow

There is no sense in blaming going to the hocking league. tarting the season the 4 Seniors that started playing for Meigs started out in 4th grade playing just Wahama, Eastern, Southern and another Meigs Team...They wee beating them teams by 40 points, they were winning every local tournament and several AAU tournaments, Went up to Columbus and placed 2nd in State in 5th Grade. Dominated the Hocking Leagues in 5th and 6th Grades. Dominated 7th and 8th grade. Then when they got in High school they were split up playing Freshmen and JV ball. Some odd decisions made during the Freshmen tournament that put 2 starters on the bench and they lost the tournament game.

Meigs Basketball has had 3 great seasons, just stopped short by FU the last 2 years. This year has nothing to do with Biddy Ball, with Coaching...It has to do with INJURIES and players quitting for whatever reasons. When little schools lose just 2 kids to injuries it makes a HUGE difference..Take a look at VC, heck take a look at Athens with just losing Lutz.

Lose your top 2 leading scorers for any team and it's gonna end with several losses...Not because they played in the Hocking league.

And for the one that aid something about breaking ankles, no someone didn't break his ankle, he done it when he stepped on another boys ankle.

In comparison to the other TVC schools Meigs is not a little school. Although enrollment is dropping because kids are flocking to nearby better rated school districts.
Main point is that the number of kids out for basketball went down due to Hocking League and fundamentals neglected in favor of W’s. A big factor to Meigs recent success had to do with a transfer in (Sheets) and one hometown stud player (Lilly), as well as finally having the best boys basketball coach they have had in like 30 years.

Sheets and Lilly's Senior year...Sheets scored 334 points averaging 15.9 points a game (missed 2 games)...Lilly scored 358 points with a 15.6 ppg. Average.

Last year Mattox as a Jr. Had 322 points 14 ppg. and didn't even start the first 5 games. Musser 272 points, Mahr 204 points, Kennedy had 185.

So comparing those 2 seasons is nothing to compare...and keep in mind that year sheets and Lilly played they shot the ball way.more then anyone...so check those percentages and you would see.those ppg averages and they are a little far fetched.

2015/2016 had 65 ppg. Average.
2016/2107 had 62 ppg. Average.

Same result both lost to Fairfield Union...pretty sure the score was closer last season.

Once again nothing to do with going to Hocking League.

This years’s senior group was the first group to play in the Hocking League for at least two seasons in elementary school. So, your conclusion is not valid. Meigs has three good seasons thanks to the talent of Lilly & Sheets and Fry’s great coaching. The negative results of biddy league ball are just now showing up.

If my memory serves me correctly, Lilly didn't even score over 100 points his Jr. Year and didn't play varsity his sophomore year...and sheets was at wahama one of those years....so the 3 great years wasn't just because of them. Had Musser, Mahr, Kennedy and Mattox as well...so quit trying to toot.your own horn...it's obvious who you are.

And the record this year is because of injuries and seniors not playing...not the hocking league...Athens, NY, VC, and several more has been playing the hocking league.
