Unioto 62
Logan Elm 53 a final

... game #2 was a halfcourt affair that had Unioto take it to the Logan Elm Braves of Coach Stiverson for 3 solid quarters ... The Shermans of Coach Hoops executed the game plan to perfection - take advantage of the size advantage UHS had on the inside with Gabe Fisher, Peyton Hill and Gavin Ogan - check ... use the size advantage inside to get good perimeter looks for your 3 point shooters - Brandon Kennedy/Tre' Ivey/Logan Swackhammer ( group went 4/10) - check ... take care of the ball/ don't let LE turn you over ... thru 3 quarters the U only had 4 TOs - check ... defensively limit Ridge Young's touches , the Ridge 10 points thru 3 with "0" triples - check ... keep the role players for LE under control - Cayman Bryant 3 triples/Kamry Wright 2 triples ... Colin Clark 8 points thru 3 - no one else in double figures - check ... Get to the line ... 11 FTs shot thru 3 - check ONLY 4 made ... really the only negative thru the first 3 quarters for the U imo ... Unioto 12 LE 13 after one ... Unioto 30 LE 22 at intermission ... Unioto 48 LE 36 end of 3 ... Unioto had great ball movement, excellent spacing, handle the on ball pressure of LE, got the ball inside, hit the perimeter treys ALL was going as planned for the U ... BUT as we know there ARE 4 quarters in a high school game, 8 minutes each ... AND apparently boys will be boys too - as all of the discipline ... okay not ALL of the discipline BUT enough discipline disappeared from the Unioto playbook to make the 4th quarter interesting ... Tre' Ivey threw down a break away dunk and the ball got inside to Gavin Ogan for a 2 pointer in the paint - offsetting a Ridge Young driving 2 and a triple ... here's the "bad taste in the mouth" the 4th quarter left with me - 2 attempted dunks by the U failed miserably BOTH were gimmy layups that weren't ... 7 Sherman TOs in the quarter allowed LE to get the game down to a 2 possession/ 6 point lead /LE with the ball and a chance to make it a 1 possession game with a 3 point bucket - all of which should not have been ... an 11 point lead at 56-45 with 1:43 to play was down to 58-52 ... :47 to play LE with the ball ... as it turned out the U's Logan Swackhammer nailed down the W with 4/4 FTs in the waning seconds to seal the deal ... Swack scored the final 8 points for UHS from the line (8/8) ... Unioto 62 Logan Elm 53 a final ...

... not enough horses in the paint for Logan Elm tonight ... Unioto was able defensively to control the boards, keep ALL of the scorers for LE in check ... great career for Ridge Young ... a player who will take his game to the next level - do I see Pioneer Hoops alongside brother Dillon in the near future ? we will see ...

... a great 3 quarters of basketball by the U ... what stands out is that last 8 minutes ... in the one and done season "undisciplined" play no matter how short in duration can spell the end of the season ... the deeper a team goes in the tournament the more likely those "moments" will cost you dearly ... next up for Unioto is Vinton County in their side of the district final matchups ... Vinton County IS a TEAM that WILL make a team pay for all of those "undisciplined" moments ... good win for the U !
