Locker Room Thefts in Ross, Fairfield, and Athens Counties

Post by formerfcfan »

Hello everyone,

There have recently been two (UPDATE: three) incidents of locker room thefts occurring while varsity basketball games have been in progress. Evidence gathered from the two incidents support the belief that the suspect in the first incident may also be the suspect in the second incident.

On Friday, January 20th, during the Huntington/Zane Trace boys varsity game, at Zane Trace, a thief stole $703 out of backpacks in the locker rooms for basketball players and cheerleaders.

On Friday, February 3rd, during the Delaware Christian/Fisher Catholic boys varsity game, at FC, players were robbed of $190 and a pair of basketball shoes.

(EDIT: Apparently Athens was hit on Thursday January 26th. See third post of thread.)

Surveillance photos from Zane Trace (which are posted below) indicate the suspect is a white male that appears to be heavy set. The suspect in the surveillance photos is wearing a black Adidas hat and a black North Face jacket. The suspect in the thefts at Fisher also was wearing a black Adidas hat and a black North Face jacket. Surveillance will be reviewed tomorrow, but players from Delaware Christian, when shown the surveillance photos from the Zane Trace incident, indicated seeing this individual at the game. The Lancaster Police Department and Ross County Sheriff's Office have not confirmed whether or not the suspect in the ZT incident is linked to the theft at FC; however, the description of the suspect (a white male in the 30's, possibly overweight, about six foot tall with a light, scraggly beard) and of the same person wearing a black Adidas hat and black North Face jacket at the FC incident corroborate the idea that there may be a serial locker room thief in south central Ohio.
Lancaster Eagle-Gazette wrote:Fisher Catholic High School Principal Joe Jasinki was familiar with the Zane Trace incident and brought a Chillicothe Gazette story up on his phone to show three players from the opposing team who saw the man. They all said it was the same man, Jasinki said.

This is the suspect.

While there's no telling if this person will hit again, please be on the lookout for this individual and, in general, any suspicious characters you may see.

If you see something, say something.

(Since this topic concerns criminal activity affecting our local schools, and has photos of the suspect, can this get a sticky so it doesn't get buried after a day or two? It is possible someone who reads this board, or whoever this post gets shared with, may know who this person is. At the very least, I'd like for as many people - coaches, administrators, fans - as possible to see this.)

Athens played at Bloom Carroll back in the 2008. They stole around $500

Apparently Athens got hit last week too by the same guy.
Lancaster Eagle-Gazette wrote: Athens High School athletic director John Rogers said a similar theft happened during a game on Jan. 26, but the incident was not reported to law enforcement. Rogers said because so little was taken, the main concern was student safety and security.

The thief took only a few gift cards and a portable video game system, Rogers said, but left behind cell phones and several pairs of headphones.

Rogers said he has "a feeling we got robbed by the same person," based on surveillance footage from the Zane Trace game and descriptions of both incidents. He called the Athens theft "eerily similar" to the Zane Trace theft.

Rogers said in the future, everything will be locked up and Athens High School staff will be on the lookout for someone matching the description of the suspect.
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, the items stolen from the locker rooms at FC were returned in a garbage bag with an apology note last night (Sunday.)

By the way, thank you for the sticky. Someone reading this has to know who this guy is, I'm sure of it.

The fact that he returned at least one robbery shows there's good inside the man somewhere. Most likely going through a very bad stage in his life, fighting demons. I am absolutely for prosecuting the man, he deserves to be prosecuted. But I will also pray that he will find the help he needs.

Might not have been able to get rid of the things he returned without giving himself up. Returned items cannot be found with him when he is brought in plus no receiving stolen property person could lead to him. The smartness of him might look like goodness inside him.

Theft is intent to permanently deprive the owner of possession. So if you return it is no "crime." Blame the supreme Court on that

If he steals again they will probably charge him with bugrarly. Just criminal trespass plus theft. I'm sure no AD wants him on school grounds now

Yeah, the surveillance photos from FC show the same guy wearing the same outfit as seen in the Zane Trace incident.

There is another photo of him in the school building in addition to a photo capturing the thief dropping off the stolen booty late at night. I would post both, but between the fact they aren't showing anything the already posted photos are showing and the fact it is probably unnecessary at this point to post.

Argh, if only the students in the hallway passing by him had the presence of mind to pay attention to the facial features of the suspect! Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

This guy has to be in serious financial trouble (or is an A+ hustler) if he is driving that far to Zane Trace, Fisher, and Athens just to steal.
