South Webster @ Clay 1/28/17

Post by IWatchFromTheStands »

Clay is on a roll right now, but Webster is a solid team. Should be a good game tonight at Clay High and will help determine seedings in the tournament. I know it is a game I won't miss tonight. Who do you all have winning it?

Clay is the heavy favorite. Webster lost a tough game to Waverly last night, they're struggling to pull out tough games. They're in nearly every game, but just can't seem to pull out tight games.

If Webster is motivated they can keep it respectable.

Webster's rotation is 3 seniors, 3 sophomores, and 2 freshman. If the young kids respond well, Webster will be in it. If they come out even remotely flat it might get ugly.

Yeah I would think Clay would win this game, but I know webster isn't a team to just write off so I am expecting it to be a good game IF like you said webster comes out motivated then it should be a good game. Should be interesting...

Really good showing by the Jeeps, even led by 1 with 2:30'lett. Was down 1 with 1:30 left and rattled out a layup to get the lead and Clay scored, thus making the Jeeps have to foul. Jeee had every opportunity to win, just couldn't pull it out under 2 mins.

Anyone in the Sectional who doesn't think SW is very good because of their record learned tonight that their schedule is legit. Clay is the #1 seed and was trailing at home with 2:30 left. Webster can play with anyone in the Sectional; so it'll be interesting to see where they're seeded.

It won't be interesting at all. They'll be opposite of the top seeded SHAC team. Book it.

Would be fine. I think the coaches will vote more fairly than you think. They did last year.

Nice win for Clay. Thought our play was sluggish tonight but found a way to win.We have always had competitive games against the Jeeps. Don't expect to beat everybody by 30 as some think. The Jeeps as any of the top 9 in the sectional will not be an easy out. Nice crowd at game and good luck to both.

I think they would be fine with that if that's how the votes go.

There is no doubt that Webster is tough. But to say just because their schedule is tough that they should be higher ranked then the teams with better records just isn't right. east and Eastern both struggled at Clay. So yea Webster had a better showing then them but Western held the lead at half. The game went back and fourth in the second half until Western came up short in the end. They were trailing by 5 with 1 minute to go, had the ball and missed a shot. So they also had to foul.. also with their best player Tanner Perdue being fouled out for the last 2 minutes.. In a sectional this deep you have to go off of records, and big Wins. Not competing with good teams to find yourself come up short.

You're right, strength of schedule means nothing. Which is exactly why 12-0 teams like Western Michigan end up in the BCS Final 4 and an 11-1 Ohio State team doesn't...... oh wait

Are we talking about High School basketball or there college football playoff where a committee votes on who is in and who is out? You want to talk about Strength of Schedule but Webster is 1-2 in the SOC 1. When coaches look at schools records they are not going to look at who they lost to in a close game. They are going to look at who they beat. Who are the KEY WINS. Thats what they should look at. Strength of Schedule means absolutely nothing if you can't get some key wins against that schedule.

Western has to play Clay and Eastern still. If they play them close does that make them move up in the seeding? NO. They will have to win at least one of those games to move up. If they do, there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to get a 6 seed in this sectional.

To be continued on the D4 Northwest sectional topic. Let all state their cases.
