Favorite High School gymnasium?

Post by Whs95fan »

Sitting here looking at scores from last night and it got me thinking, what is everyone's favorite place to watch a game in the area, excluding their own home gym? I can remember back in the day going to the old Zanesville gym to watch Warren, loved the feel and the layout the gym had.

I've been to a lot and my favorite is Wellston

Akron SVSM is my favorite in the state since you walk in and it's endless state and national title banners.

For small schools, it's a tie between Southern and Fisher. Parkersburg Catholic, Portsmouth, and Rosecrans are also really nice in their own ways. Honorable mention: Fairfield Union.

Upper Arlington and Kettering Fairmont are my two favorite big school facilities.

Several goods mentioned so far
Portsmouth Clay is a nice gym of the newer ones built
Love the Downtown Gym in Waverly, just wish they had more than 2 locker rooms.

I sure do miss the old gym at Wheelersburg. Nothing better than walking out to a packed gym at the start of the JV game!

Beallsville - Over-and-back is measured by getting the ball past half court and then not going back past the volleyball line nearest the basket you are defending. I think it is 6 steps from baseline to baseline. Hell, the 3-point line is in the parking lot (it legitimately goes out of bounds just below the foul line - no corner 3's).

Old Woodsfield - Was on a stage. As in, you could jump to save a ball from going out of bounds and fall a few feet below court level.

Really? I like it's set up but dirty bleachers and slick floor.

I like the look of Logan's and Southeastern's.

Oak Hill and Wellston's old high schools had the gym floor on a stage too.

The old Wheelersburg gym was great. Even though both teams were on the same side, there was always plenty of room.

And of course the classic New Boston gym with the step in the corner.
