Parkersburg was pretty quick to the basket but didn't finish very well at all. They also seemed to dominate the boards. Huffman pretty well owned the Strange kid in the 1st half, but that kid came on strong in the 3rd and kept PKB in it almost by himself. Warren switched things up and Weihl did a nice job with some help on him in the 4th. Warren got big shots from everyone down the stretch, handling Parkersburg's pressure and moving the ball well for open shots (struggled a bit in the last minute, but really had the game under control by that point). Gandee hit a couple big 3s, Bartmess had a nice shot when they needed it, Weihl hit a 3 with about 2 minutes left, and Dennis answered a couple Parkersburg baskets with old school bank shots (legit, not sloppy).

Warren 67
Parkersburg 59 a final

... won't try to recap this one tonight as enigmaxx summed it up well
... Great Game !!! the Big Reds came calling with literally thousands of players - ok maybe not thousands but they dressed 17 for varsity and played 9 - STILL NOT ENOUGH TO TAKE DOWN THE BIG BAD BLUE TONIGHT !!! It wasn't in any way a "perfect" game by the Warriors - 15 TO's ... only 5/18 from 3 point land and 10/15 from the charity stripe BUT! everything the Warriors did they did at the right time - they took away enough of what Parkersburg tries to do and didn't allow any ONE player to "go off" for extended periods during the game - PHS had 3 players in double figures each contributing their part at the expense of the others on the team ... the Big Reds have a very good basketball team ! the Warriors were the more "disciplined" team tonight ... Coach Maddox's boys didn't let anything bother them - took advantage of what PHS gave them all night and let ALL of the "pieces" to TEAM do their jobs tonight as 4 Warriors were in double figures led by the big man Chase Weihl with 24 points , 16 in the 4th period ... supported by Josh Huffman's 13 (10 points in first half) ... Kyler Dennis was the most consistent BBB player with 16 spread out throughout all 4 qtrs and finally Bryce Gandee tossed in 12 with his damage coming in the 3rd period when he drained 2 triples to give Warren separation in what was an excellent back and forth contest between 2 outstanding basketball teams ... Warren 67 Parkersburg 59 a final ...

Just adding some input about game in addition to others above: The game was played at the tempo that Warren liked in the first half. I really figured Parkersburg would come out and force a faster paced game by pressing or full court man. However, the first half pace was pretty slow which I think played into Warren's favor. Warriors led by 4 at the break. Parkersburg did come out in the third quarter with some pressure and switched to some half court trapping, but the Warriors handled it very well. The Warriors used one nice run late in the third quarter to pull out to a 7 point lead and kept control from there for the nice victory. Josh Huffman took it right at PHS in the first quarter and finished the evening with 13 points and 7 boards. Bryce Gandee hit some clutch 3 pters and finished with 12 points. Chase Weihl, who had a quiet first half, exploded in the fourth quarter and put up a dominating stat line of 24 points and 17 rebounds. Kyler Dennis chipped in all game long and finished with a nice all around game of 16 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Cam Bartmess played a big role as far as ballhandling, defense, and made several nice plays at key times in the game. Parkersburg is a very talented team and had a balanced effort as well, with Karson Snyder scoring 16 points and Kam White 15 points. Brenton Strange had a 14 point, 10 rebound double-double. It was a very exciting atmosphere in Vincent and a very good win for the Warriors.

No worries 93Dog, it's a new day and a new game, have to always come out and play or anything can happen. The good news for you is that somewhere the law of averages have to kick in.

Coaching played a huge part in this game. Warren has one of the best, and it showed.

I am sure there is lots of interest in Wheil. He has been a dominating force on both ends of the court all season. I know he has interest in playing college baseball.

... Coach Maddox & staff did a great job of keeping the BBB focused ... disciplined in how they attacked in the half court, how they played on the defensive end ... how they handled the pressure of the PHS onslaught in the 2nd half ... with the pressure by the Big Reds came Warren turnovers - at the outset of the 3rd qtr the Warriors gave up 2 quick turnovers which resulted in 2 PHS buckets - no panic by Coach Maddox or TEAM ... Warren broke the pressure repeatedly for baskets around block or baseline ... same deal at the beginning of the 4th PHS turned the Warriors over 2 opening possession for 2 fgs but once again no one over reacted which IS a usual side effect of the pressure ... Warren kept their own tempo and righted the ship each time ... I was impressed with the confidence the Warren kids had in NOT pulling the ball out in the 4th but maintained their rhythm getting good looks around the paint - Kyler Dennis hit 2 straight "intentional" bank shots from that "tweener" range of 10 feet on both sides of the bucket - put a smile on my face thinking that John Wooden would be proud LOL ... it just seemed like every player for Warren contributed at just the right time throughout the game - that's how you end up with 4 players in double figures ...

Coach Maddox is one of best bench Coachs and has his team very well prepared. I think he will,be Hall of Fame material when it's all said and done.

Of note is that the Parkersburg Big Reds defeated West Virginia AAA #1 ranked Capital last evening, 67-65. This was a payback win for the Big Reds who had lost to Capital by 14 on the road earlier in the season. Parkersburg, who was ranked #9 in AAA this week, now has victories against Capital (#1 ranked at the time of victory), Woodrow Wilson (#5 ranked at the time of victory), and Parkersburg South twice (one by huge margin and one close).
