Just an FYI Fairfield Union scrimmages Cols South and Dayton Dunbar early in the season. Beat south and lost to Dunbar by 2 so these polls are junk until about game 20, but I'd rather just see how the tourney plays out.

It's cool to see the AP polls early on, but they literally mean nothing. Some of these teams will stay in it the whole season and even move up and down and others will be in it now and never be back in. But, I like seeing these polls sometimes.

Anyone know who the SE writers are who get votes? Because they HAD to be the ones voting oak Hill #1.. which is ridiculous.

Considering a around .500 Oak Hill team took Fairland to the wire with a chance to send the game to overtime last year in the sectional final, I think you might want to reconsider that statement.

Fairland is clearly the best team in d/3 in southeast Ohio. Not sure how good Oak Hill is but once again these are sports writers doing the voting. I would think that all teams that get a vote since the southeast has such FEW votes should be proud for the entire Southeast District. Best of luck to all teams and in the long run let us hope we can get a team or 2 to Columbus come March.

Being ranked is nice recognition for a school, but there are schools that don't appear in the poll throughout the season that end up in the Final 4. I see that Cleveland Villa-Angela St.Joseph is not ranked, but there schedule typically is so tough that it's very hard for them to get ranked. They have all 5 starters back from last year's D3 state runnerup team and is my pick to win the D3 state title this season. They have the most Final 4 wins in OHSAA state tournament history with 18, to go along with 5 state titles. They have been to the state tournament 4 straight years.

I have seen Fairland and Oak Hill play, and I would rate the Dragons as the better team right now. I think that Fairland has more offense than the Oaks, and man for man would pose matchup problems for OH. 6-6 center Collin Van Horn could very well end up the D3 SE district POY. Also FHS's Detrick Cunningham might be the best 6th man in the SE district, and also the quickest. He could start for a lot of teams in the SE district. For Oak Hill to beat Fairland in the tournament the Oaks would have to keep the score down around 50. I will get a first hand account of the Dragons again tonight as my Portsmouth Trojans travel to Proctorville.

Portsmouth won the 1979 AP Poll title with an 18-0 record, but lost to Ironton 54-52 in the district championship. It snapped a 29 game winning streak, the longest in PHS history.

They have like 11 seniors, which is insane for a D4 private school. They have a really nice freshmen group, which are getting to play together due to that massive senior class. Should be a nice little run for them.

That win over Desales is outstanding.
