Fairfield Union 49
Miami Trace 44 a final

... Game 2 of opening night of the 3 Weeks of the Convo had the MSL Fairfield Union Falcons taking on Miami Trace out of the SCOL ... Miami Trace showed the more athletic of the 2 teams with the quickness of Pettiford "squared" Deandre Pettiford & Tyrae Pettiford ... both appeared able to get to the rim vs the FU defensive players, add to the mix PG Blake Pittser knocking down 2 triples in the opening period ... FU looked to have the decided advantage in the paint with 6-5 strong man in the middle Colin Woodside ... slow starts by both teams ... Miami Trace 12 Fairfield Union 8 end of one ... Quarter 2 was a wash as both teams tallied 11 points apiece ... MT split the scoring just like in quarter one between 3 players - Deandre Pettiford 7 points/ 2 triples in the qtr (11 for the half), Tyrae Pettiford 2 pts in the qtr (4 for the half), Blake Pittser 2 in the qtr (8 in the half) as a team MT was 4/10 from behind the arc in the first half ... for Fairfield Union Colin Woodside led the scoring in the qtr. with 4 pts/ Brad Miller added 2, Luke Thompson gave FU their only 3 pointer in the half and Hayden Price added 2 pts ... Miami Trace 23 Fairfield Union 19 at the half ...

... FU has been known for the 3 point shooting of Lucas Thompson, Hayden Price, Thomas Green ... thru 16 minutes the trio were 1/7, hardly "on fire" ... the 3rd quarter saw FU losing ground on the scoreboard as the Falcons could muster only 5 points ... having as many turnovers (5) as points ... Miami Trace hardly ran away and hid as they hit for an anemic 9 points including a two-handed dunk by Tyrae Pettiford and 6-5 Darby Tyree hitting a triple to extend the MT lead ... Miami Trace 32 Fairfield Union 24 end of three ...

... it was looking like a Vinton County vs Miami Trace District final ... FU came to life as the Falcons at the 4:30 mark of the 4th made a run that started with a 3 pointer , followed by Miami Traces' only turnover of the qtr. which ended with another triple for FU to tie the score at 34-34 at the 4 minute mark ... at 3 minutes on the clock another FU three ball ... in total during the final 4:30 FU knocked down 4 triples a regular 2 point bucket by Price ... add in 9/13 from the FT line it totaled too much for the 8 points by MT Pittser's in the final 4 minutes to keep MT close ... in the end FU outscored Miami Trace 25-12 in the final quarter the majority of which were tallied in the last 4 and a half minutes ... Fairfield Union 49 Miami Trace 44 a final ...

... the silver-lining for my Panthers is that everybody will be back next year and should be one of the favorites to win the district. they do need to work on shooting and finishing inside around the basket, they've left a lot of points on the floor this year by missing shots right at the rim and at the FT line. a few of them need to hit the weight room and get stronger so they can take a bump and still score. but, all in all, it was a good run this year.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the same 3 of the 4 teams back next year. FU only started 1 senior and VC brings back a lot as well.
