I think it will be the Shermans biggest challenge to date. On the road against a very good team, should show a lot about what the Shermans can expect for the rest of the season, IMO. They haven't guarded against the 3 ball as well the last couple of outings, so that could be a big advantage for the Falcons if they can knock down shots early. Wheeler vs. Woodside should be a fun matchup between the bigs that can both step out and knock down jumpers. I think it will come down to how well FU handles the Unioto pressure that they are able to put on in the 3/4 court. Should be a fun game.Smeltzy wrote:Hope to see the purple hippo at FU tonight. Missed him last time, hope you have the hippo on so I can find you this time. Hopefully FU can compete with the tanks.

I agree. FU can really shoot it. I say Unioto by 10 but this COULD be closer or an upset because of the 3 ball.
It appears Unioto and Peake stand out above the rest. St Charles and unioto would be a great matchup to watch. Both teams have 3 very good guards and two bigs. St Charles bigs are 6-9 and 6-7 with a 6-7 sub. None are as strong or quick as Uniotos bit they are long.
St Charles shot 61% against us last night and had only 6 turnovers. You wont find 3 more fundamental guards. Nothing fancy but they can all 3 shoot the three, drive, and dish.

Consolation game tonight is Manchester vs West Union at the McDonalds Holiday Tourney. Tomorrow is the Championship game Peebles vs North Adams around 8:00 at North Adams. Hope this helps.
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #4
Unioto 65
FU. 49
Game was never in doubt. Swackhammer kid is a very nice player and then they have several players that play their role well. You can see why they have been hard to beat. FU didn't play their best but credit to the Shermans, they caused them to not play well. FU will be fine and could be dangerous at end of year.

Unioto still cream of crop, I still say Fairland climbs the ladder quick. Valley, Peake, Minford all really good also, D3 will be one heck of tourney battle.

Unioto 65
Fairfield Union 49 a final
... Coach Hoops & the Shermans are #1 on Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio rankings for a reason - the Shermans are simply the most "complete" team Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line - end of story ... proof doesn't come from the committee of one's rankings, or the old Ouija Board ... the proof comes from Unioto's TEAM play on the hardwood ... UHS vs a good Fairfield Union squad at FU, an FU team sitting at 7-1 entering tonight's game was another chance for the Shermans to show more proof that they are more than deserving of #1 Below the Line ...
... It didn't take long for the Shermans to make a statement ... 2 minutes and 22 seconds into the game had UHS throwing the first punches ... a 10-0 run by Unioto set the tone for the game ... the roles were handed out - Unioto would be the "chased" and FU the "chaser" ... good teams take the runs and answer with runs of their own FU did that with a 9-0 run of their own out scoring Unioto 13-6 after coming out of the time out to stop the UHS run at the 5:28 mark ... Unioto showed their entire arsenal in the first period 3 point buckets by Swackhammer & Kennedy ... 2 transition baskets off of 2 FU turnovers ... 6 points from Cole Cottrill and an inside basket by Erique Hosley ... FU showed their hand as to how they would attack the UHS defense as FU drained 3 of 7 triples in the period ... Unioto 16 FU 13 end of 1 ... the Unioto defense took over in quarter 2 as the Shermans held the FU offense to 2 inside makes by the FU big man in the middle Colin Woodside ... that was it for FU ... 5 misses from beyond the three point line ... 5 FU turnovers that led to 3 UHS transition buckets AND an offensive show by UHS PG Logan Swackhammer sealed the deal for Coach Hoops' boys ... Swack scored 12 points in the quarter - 2 triples, 2 transition hoops ... 15 points for the half ... helping to push the UHS lead from 3 entering the quarter to 19 going into intermission ... Unioto 36 FU 17 at the half ... Fairfield Union won the second half ! 32-29 ... but the damage was done ... the outcome was never in doubt ... UHS 54 FU 35 after 3 ... Unioto 65 Fairfield Union 49 a final ...

... Fairfield Union IS one of the better teams in Southeastern Ohio ... when you live by the three , you can also die by the three ball 6/25 from downtown doesn't get it done vs a team such as Unioto who can shoot the 3 ball as well as/or better than FU ... Woodside IS a factor in the paint ... but just like the perimeter shooting was matched by UHS the inside presence of a BIG was matched by Wheeler and one upped by Hosley for UHS ... I'm thinking that the FU coaching staff will be paying me to stay away since I've seen FU twice - both ending in losses - to Logan Elm at home and now the loss to Unioto at home ...
... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Unioto

Swackhammer (8/13 fg)... Cottrill (8/12 fg) ... Kennedy (3/4 fg) ... Hosley (3/5 fg) => 65 % from the field for the game ...
... I like to jot down my impressions on my napkin stat sheet for each team I'm watching for each quarter of the game - tonight had only two words jotted down on my napkin stats sheet for Coach Hoops' Shermans for the first half of play - "A CLINIC !!!" in all capital letters and underlined 3 times LOL ... simply outstanding - UHS did everything right in taking FU out of the game ... bloodied their nose early with the 10-0 run, scored in every way possible, hit the 3 ball, defended the inside game of Woodside/ the perimeter shooters for FU were 3/12 in the 1st half ... showed FU whatever they could do UHS could do better ... played 9 players with no falloff ... matched the FU inside BIG x 2 of their own in Hosley/Wheeler ... outstanding ... EARNED #1 ...

whsball ... I'm looking forward to seeing both Chesapeake and Fairland when I make the trek to the river on Jan. 9th for the Beasts of the Southeast ... both the Peake and Fairland are playing great hoops right now too ... so many quality teams to see so little time to see them LOL ...

Jan 5 in Portsmouth, Hope the Trojans play well and give Peake a great game, I think the Trojans may be a signature win away from making some noise
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #4
trojans may not be all the way there but they are getting closer m when you play 2 go 3 sophmores a lot there will be mistakes but they are learning ,look for some very exiting games in the next few weeks.LetsGoPSU wrote:Jan 5 in Portsmouth, Hope the Trojans play well and give Peake a great game, I think the Trojans may be a signature win away from making some noise
peakes coach ask for one of the refs to be removed from this game
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #4
any station broadcasting the Warren Alexander game?
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #4
Peebles 57 , North Adams 46 . Championship game of the McDonald Holiday Tournament.
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #4
... anytime you can beat a Blane Maddox Warren ball club - it's a good "W" to put on the handy dandy pocket schedule ... Alexander IS a physical basketball team ... Warren doesn't have the "physical bodies" inside this year - playing & beating a team like Alex is a tall order especially on the road ... Warren will have it's hands full with my Logan Purple this season both games ... Logan & Warren don't matchup until later in the season for their 2 league games - advantage Logan imo ...
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #4
... on a side note ... good teachers of the game learn more about their teams in a loss than a W ... Coach Maddox & his staff will take the video apart on this one and "make adjustments" ... the Warren TEAM will "learn" from this road loss - count on it ...
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #4
Warren is 0-2 in the TVC-Ohio. Hopefully Athens can make them 0-3 next week.
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #4
... hmmmmmmmm maybe it is the right time for Warren to apply for acceptance into the TVC ????? ... just read where Coach Maddox's Warriors were down a starter last night due to an injury in the game with FF the night before ... when you aren't a dominating team even WITH all of the pieces in play ... when you are not at full strength AND playing a quality team like Alexander - it is going to have an effect on the outcome ... might end up as a positive for Warren as a role player had to step in, play more minutes vs a very good/strong Alexander squad , on the road, the Blue may have gained more than they lost in this one if roles were added to/improved on in a big game such as this one was (at least in the minds of us Cheap Seat guys) ...ShoeHorn wrote:Warren is 0-2 in the TVC-Ohio. Warren will be 5-7 seed with Athens and Sheridan. Sheridan has athletic bigs, Warren has the best system, and Athens has a D1 point guard. No easy games for D2 Logan
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #4
Warren should be back to full strength against Athens and the name of the game will be Defense.ShoeHorn wrote:Warren is 0-2 in the TVC-Ohio. Hopefully Athens can make them 0-3 next week.
