KAW-LIGA...Hank Williams, Sr, 1952, M&L by Williams, Fred Rose...covered umpteen times, the best cover being Charley Pride's 1969 edition.

I was 4 years old when this somg was first popular, and I useta belt it out from a shopping cart seat in the Cincinnati Kroger's. Needless to say, no agent signed me up. I'd liketa revive those days, but (a) I can't fit into a shopping cart seat , & (b) I don't wanna be hauled off to Portsmouth Receiving for evaluation.

YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE...Gov. Jimmie Davis, 1927, M&L by Davis & Charles Mitchell(It's said that Davis bought the song & rights from one Paul Rice, a practice not uncommon before WW2, but there's no substantiation for that story. However, the Rice Bros. & clarinetist Pud Brown were among the accompanying instrumentalists on Davis' recording.)

Davis recorded it in 1927, but it wasn't released for sale until 1931.(Bing Crosby, Ray Charles, & especially GENE AUTRY all had hits with this song.)

Davis(1899-2000) was twice Governor of Louisiana, from 1944-48, and from 1960-64. He died in 2000, age 101.

This song is worth a download if you like country & wanna see some of its roots. You'll be slightly amused by the FOXTROT instrumental accompaniment! (But remember, this was recorded almost 80 years ago!)

Family Tradition Hank Williams Jr.--1979-#4

M&L---Hank Williams Jr.

Williams penned Family Tradition as yet another of his angry denunciations of those who insisted he was doing things all wrong and would be better off if he went along with the Nashville establishment. But Hank jr. knew the truth:that his father was the original Nashville rebel.
