Trojan Trivia

Post by Trojan_FB_Alum »

I stole this idea from a Nelsonville York thread. See if you can’t guess the correct answer, or try to stump us with some of your own.

1. Who are the top 2 leading rushers in Portsmouth football history?
2. Who was the coach of the undefeated team of 1953?
3. What class won more games then any other? i.e. the class of 2009’s football years would have been from 05-08.
3a. What was their record?
4. What coach has won more games then any other Portsmouth coach?
5. What former Trojan lineman was the original Captain Trojan?

T_FB_A let me try. I may not get all of these correct, but here goes nothing!!! All of these are from memory so I apologize in advance if some of these are off..or flat out incorrect.

1. JoJo Parker (#1) & Michael Parker (#2)
2. Bob Brownson
3. Graduating class of 2003 -- Football class of 1999-2002 -- ALL of these teams were lead by a great D and O line play.
3a. 1999=8-3, 2000=13-1, 2001=11-2, 2002=11-2 TOTAL OF 43-8
4. Curt Clifford
5. Bubba Hickman

I've got one --Trojan_FB_Alum or anyone else:
What former Coach of the 1953 UNDFEATED PORTSMOUTH TROJANS was also a Player of the 1938 UNDFEATED PORTSMOUTH TROJANS?

WOW TrojanBuff

All of those are correct with the exception of 3a. The record is 42-9 with a 7-4 mark in 99. Those losses were to Chillicothe, Miami Trace, Ironton, and Valley View.

I will see if I can't come up with some more latter. Go ahead and post your own head scratches for now.

Why not... this question relates to the SAME 1953 UNDEFEATED PORTSMOUTH TROJANS team

1) How many players from this team played in the NFL?
2) Who were they?
3) What teams did they play for?

...I've got more Triava from this 1953 team if you want it :-D

Tobais is correct. After graduating from Maryland State College, Mr. Gentry was the 17th draft pick, selected by the Chicago Bears in 1965. Curt was the oldest rookie (age 29) to make an NFL roster. Still to this day, Mr. Gentry shares a Bears’ record with 3 interceptions in one game versus the St. Louis Cardinals in 1967.

Today Curt lives in Greensboro

I thought maybe Ray Pelphery at first but I think he would be too young for that team so I will go with Jim Gardner of the Cleveland Browns.

Who holds the Trojans single season sack record?
How many sack is it and what year?

What Portsmouth coach has won 2 A.P. State Titles?

In what year was the Trojans first trip to the OHSAA playoffs?

3 out of 5 not to bad.
1a) 16
2) Chuck Burke one as the defensive coordinator of the 2000 Portsmouth Trojans, and one as a player for the 1970 Notre Dame Titans.

T_FB_A - Great question for (2). That one really made me think, and I still couldn't think of the answer.

That would be Bob Manchester.
He also served as an assistant at Malone collage after his playing days.
Bob is a great guy, who I hope throws his hat into the ring when the time comes that Coach Clifford decides to retire.

Who are the last two sets of Trojan brothers to go on to play division 1 football?

1) Gerald Cadogan and Nate Cadogan
2) Antonio Malone and Michael Malone

- Antonio was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter for the University of Toledo Rockets (2002-2005).
- Antonio has spent time in the NFL with the Detriot Lions and Green Bay Packers and in the Arena Football League (AFL) with the Colorado Crush.

- Michael was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter for the Bowling Green State University Falcons (1999-2003).
- Michael was a fifth-year senior for the Falcons. Michael also joined the BGSU coaching staff in 2005 as a Defensive Assistant Coach.

T_FB_A - Bob Manchester is the correct answer.

Bob earned All-Ohio recognition during his Senior season at Portsmouth High School.

Bob went on to play college football for the Malone Pioneers from 2000-2003. Bob was a four-year starter for the Malone Pioneers and earned All Conference league honors.

After graduating from Malone, Bob returned as a Graduate Assistant, coaching at Malone for three years.

Manchester has gone on to coach at a few Akron high schools, his last stint at Akron East High School.
