New documentary about the history of Nelsonville

Post by EvanShaw »

Hello everyone!

My name is Evan Shaw, and I'm a documentary filmmaker with WOUB here in Athens. Each year we select a different city in Southeastern Ohio as part of our 'Our Town' series, and we take a look at the town's history from the very early days in the 1800s all the way up until the present day. Last year we selected Pomeroy (I'm a Meigs graduate, so that was a really fun project for me) and this year we have selected Nelsonville. The film will explore topics such as: the town's very early beginnings when it was founded by Daniel Nelson, the canal system, the first railroads, the coal boom, Stuart's Opera House, the labor movement in the Little Cities region, the brick industry, Brooks Shoes and Rocky Boots, the early history of Hocking College, the Parade of the Hills, the Nelsonville Music festival and much more.

There will be a FREE screening on Saturday, March 19th at Nelsonville-York High School. Doors open at 7, and the show will begin at 7:30. Again, this event is FREE and open to the public - no tickets or reservations required, just come on down. It will also air on WOUB-TV on Monday, March 21 at 8:00PM.

Here's an article as well as the trailer for the project to give you a little bit better idea of what it will be like:

I hope many of you are able to come to the premiere, and if you have any questions about this project or suggestions for our next city, feel free to let me know on here!

Thanks!

Evan
