The Buckeyes begin their season this weekend with some tough match-ups at the Ice Breaker Tournament in Toledo, Ohio. Their first game will be against #14 Western Michigan on Friday. Then on Saturday, they will either play #17 Bowling Green or RIT.

OSU played their exhibition game on Sunday as they hosted Western Ontario, and won that scrimmage 5-2.

Facing a very tough team to open the season, the #12 Buckeyes faced off against #14 Western Michigan in Toledo. The two teams played to a 2-2 deadlock, and the Buckeyes eventually got the win in shootout. OSU hit the back of the net first, as Miguel Fidler scored in the first period. Then, the Broncos scored back-to-back goals in the 1st and 2nd period to take the lead. Finally, the Buckeyes' Matt Miller evened the game up on a power play in the 3rd period.

Tommy Nappier recorded 44 saves in goal for the Buckeyes. While Bronco goalkeeper Brandon Bussi recorded 27 saves.

Ohio State will play the winner of the Bowling Green vs. RIT game that is being played right now. They will play tomorrow.

Although a .500 finish to the weekend wasn't what they were looking for, the Buckeyes earned a weekend split with Michigan in Ann Arbor. On Friday night, the Wolverines picked up a close 3-2 victory. But then the Buckeyes picked up a dominant 4-1 victory on Saturday night.

Next up, Ohio State hosts two games against Penn State next Friday and Saturday.

Well at least the Buckeyes won the season series over Michigan 3 games to 1. There's a very good chance that they end up playing again in the Big 10 tournament coming up at the end of the regular season. Any victory over the Wolverines always seems a little better and more important than any other team. lol

Playing against a top 10 team is never easy, even when it's at home, and the Buckeyes found that out this weekend. On Friday, the Buckeyes earned a tie and ultimately a shootout win against #9 Penn State. But then on Saturday in the series finale, OSU was hammered 6-3.

Next up, in Ohio State's next to last weekend of the regular season, they'll play two games at Michigan State on the 21st and 22nd.
