The field is set, as announced by the NCAA on Sunday, for the D1 field hockey national tournament. As expected, North Carolina earned the #1 overall seed, as the top ranked team in the polls. They are also the reigning national champions from last season. UConn, Virginia, and Louisville earned the other top 4 seeds for the tournament (in that order). Surprisingly, 2nd ranked Maryland did not earn a top 4 seed.

Miami (OH) is the only team from Ohio to make the field for the tournament. 4 teams from the Big Ten also qualified for the tournament.

Tournament play will begin on Wednesday (Nov. 13th) with first round games. The championship game will be the 24th at Kentner Stadium in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

The field of 64 teams, which will compete for the 38th NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship, was announced this afternoon by the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Committee. Thirty-one conferences were granted automatic bids for the 2019 championship, while the remaining 33 teams were selected at-large. The top 16 teams are seeded and conference teams cannot play each other in the first or second rounds. When pairing teams, the committee follows geographic proximity parameters. The top 16 teams will host, and all other sites were selected for the first round to create the least number of flights.

The four No. 1 seeds include Stanford, the automatic qualifier out of the Pac-12 Conference, and North Carolina, the automatic qualifier from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida State and Virginia also earned No. 1 seeds.

Xavier and Bowling Green both made the tournament from Ohio. In addition, 5 teams from the Big Ten made the tournament field.
