Tate Martell Transfering

OSU QB Tate Martell is in the ncaa transfer portal.

So if Fields isn’t eligible who’s the Buckeyes starter in 2019?

Thoughts?

I would assume the front runner would be Matthew Baldwin. He seems like he has the most talent with the best resume.

It would about have to be Baldwin. Chugonov is really the only other QB on the roster. Graduate transfer like Hurts would be the last option. 99.9% sure Fields will get the waiver though.

C ya Tate. Reminds me 2 much of Johnny M. No way ncaa does not let fields be eligible. A fancy lawyer would own the ncaa. Even the powerfull nc2a wont mess with the racism card

I knew this would happen with us getting the ga. qb. we lost an ace in joey burrow. but haskins did an outstanding job. we never really got a chance to see what martell can actually do. because he always came in on a goal line situation. and then we always false started when he came in , changing up whatever plan they had. I know he was extremely highly recruited and one of the best athletes in the country. I assumed he'd be our starter this year till the Georgia qb transfer. I hope like the qb at Clemson that left, that it really works out for him. he went to Missouri. I hope martell does not have to drop a division to start immediately at the fcs level. I hope he gets a wonderful shot at proving himself. have we signed a blue chip qb, besides the kid from Georgia. sometimes being too rich with athletes can bite you in the rear. this is a perfect example. I sure wished we still had burrow. but I had a blast watching him be a bayou Bengal. and I hope he gets a shot in the pros, he is tougher than a .59 cent tee bone steak. I love the kid. I'd love to see him or haskins in bengals stripes.

I agree with Barber. In the event Fields must sit out, Baldwin is a very good QB.

As far as Tater Tot.....I though his tweet tyraid last week was extremely immature and now he throws in the towel.

Take your attitude and go bro. We dont need that at OSU

I didnt like his public tweets before the Fields transfer was official and then the transfer is official and Tate doesnt do what he says he would and win the job, instead, he bolts. As highly touted as Tate was coming out of H.S., Fields was rated higher.
Fields was/is going to win the starting job and Tate new it - no one can blame him for transferring, like Joe had to do, but dont do it the way you did son... You run your mouth about being the starter/going to win it, talk about about Fields and then you bolt.... I just dont like the way he did that.

Martell was an Urban guy, who just wasn't going to fit what Day wants to do. I think it's pretty clear that Day wants a QB that will stand in the pocket and throw the ball. Sure, the threat of QB run always helps, but Day isn't going to run 30 or 40 read option plays a game. He'll lean on his RB's to do the running. He's interested in developing NFL QB's, and that will only help in recruiting the position.

Yes. Day will have an offense that will push the ball downfield.

I'm all for it. The qb run zone read using a RB disguised as a qb isnt winning Nattys these days.

To an extent, I sympathize for Tate Martell. And I say this as someone who long thought that Tate wasn’t going to work out with Ohio State. I sympathize with the fact he’s a young kid that committed to a school across the country to not just win a starting job but to play for Urban. Even after he lost his other end of the QB-WR battery when Gorman teammate Tyjon Lindsey decommitted, he held to his commitment. The way that these last six weeks have played out for him, it was disappointing. But, at the same time it is best to experience disappointment when young in life so as to build upon it and bounce back.

I also thought, and still do think, that he wasn’t going to pan out. He was/is way too outspoken, the entire narrative both written for him and the one which he internalized was that of a kid who was going to come in and beat everyone else out to be QB1 in a loaded depth chart... when he himself could’ve started at probably 85-90% of the Power Five schools. Haskins and Burrow were very well liked and respected by the team— Tate Martell was hardly well-liked and not respected at all. You could ask the team if they’d have rather had Joe or Tate as QB2, and most would’ve responded “Joey” while Tate would’ve convinced himself that he was preferred.

Unlike every other position on the field there is only one spot for a QB, when schools sign one every year and redshirt some you end up with 4,5,and sometimes 6 QBs on the roster. Not everyone is going to get to play. I for one am happy to have running backs run and QBs pass. I liked Burrow but Haskins was better, he showed that on the field. Go Bucks!

He'll end up back out west somewhere. Possibly UCLA.

I watched the documentary "QB1" on Netflix which followed him his senior year in High school and I thought he was an absolute arrogant punk. I feel your beloved Buckeyes are better off with him going elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I 100% agree with that. That show QB1 painted an awful picture of him, and I had no respect for him since I saw that when it came out.

Have heard Miami is interested in Hurts also, could they take both? Don't know of any reason Martell would get a hardship waiver. They could have Hurts for one year, then Martell for 2.

Apparently competition is to much for Tate. When the word started spreading Fields was going to be a Buckeye, Tate made it sound like it was his team and Fields would have to take it from him. Now that Fields is at Ohio State not even two days later he wants out.

Miami he will be a backup again if they get Hurts.

WVU he has a chance to start.

Louisville? Seriously he should just look at Oklahoma instead since they may be in the market for a QB

WVU will more than likely be a dumpster fire with a new coaching staff and losing a ton of talent to graduation/draft.

Miami- dumpster fire for the reasons above

Louisville- current dumpster fire. Will need several more years under new coaching staff to get back on track.

Sorry Tater Tot, if you are a punk in Columbus, you'll be a punk any where you go.

I just must have missed it. I had no idea that was going on. or there was any conflict between him and team mates.
