Bud Foster is 56 years old, deeply rooted in the New River Valley, and one of the highest paid assistants in the nation. His loyalty worked against him. I was a top second banana for 25 years, when the top job opened, I did not get any serious consideration. I brought no new ideas to the organization. Once a second banana, always a second banana. VPI needed to go in a young, modern direction with Fuente, not a continuation of Frank Beamer who allowed the program to wither.
