According to ESPN’s Heather Dinich, the College Football Playoff committee will be making a change this offseason.
In the first three years of the College Football Playoff, the Ohio State Buckeyes have qualified twice – winning it once back in 2014. It looks like the school will be involved with the event moving forward too – even if the team isn’t good enough to qualify.
ESPN’s Heather Dinich is reporting that multiple sources have told the network that Ohio State AD Gene Smith will be replacing Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez on the committee. Alvarez isn’t being kicked out though – his three-year term has simply expired.
Dinich notes that Bobby Johnson and Condoleezza Rice also have expiring terms. They’ll be replaced soon as well.

This will actually not help the Buckeyes and might hurt them in qualifying for the CFP. Gene Smith will have to recuse himself from any discussion of where to rank the Buckeyes and if there is no other CFP member from the BIG, who will advocate for OSU?

This is neither a good or bad thing for the Buckeyes, if they deserve to be in, they'll get in, if they don't deserve it they won't get in.
