After their disastrous 1-8 start, the Reds are 20-18, proving they are capable of playing .500 baseball. Good starting pitching coupled with a weak bullpen and anemic offense. They project to be out of the pennant race before the July 31st trade deadline. If this happens, do the Reds unload their new found pitching and start anew on rebuilding?

It's hard to say, but I don't think so. The Reds only have 6 players over the age of 29. Starting pitcher Tanner Roark (32), Relief pitchers Zach Duke (36), David Hernandez (34), Jared Hughes (33), Joey Votto (35) and Curt Casali (30).

If they are 100% out of the race by the trade deadline, which is possible (but I don't see that being the case), they might trade someone like Puig or Roark, but I can't see many others that they would unload.

Some of these younger guys are starting to produce now, which is great, because all we've been hearing for years now is how good the minor league system is.

I'm tired of hearing minor league system! Been hearing it for the last 6 years ? Father time on Votto yes ! But it looks like every move that front office makes is wrong ?

Dietrich is the man! Also, it looks like Votto is starting to hit the ball better. Who knows? Maybe they can climb out of the cellar?

Coach David Bell does it again! In the game against the Dodgers on May 17, Dodgers are hitting the ball hard straight at defenders for 2 innings, he leaves DeSclafani in the game until they those hard outs become homers. Last night same thing, Pirates start hitting ball well on Lorenzen, Bell leaves him in, and bingo, 4 runs to blow the game wide open.
Now, I am not an expert but my wife called it both times. What does that say?

A little perspective on the Reds performance thru June 6th this year versus last year:

2019 W 28 L 33 .459 pct 6.5 games back of 35-27 Cubs
2018 W 21 L 40 .344 pct 16 games back of 37-24 Brews

The difference is that the current Reds started 1-8. Last year's version started 3-18. At least this years NL Central features no team playing .600 ball at this stage of the season.
