MLB Trade Deadline

Post by danicalifornia »

Happens today at 4.

Today's trades:

Red Sox get Fernando Abad (LHP) from the Twins for Pat Light (RHP, 25)

Mets get Jay Bruce from the Reds for 2B Dilson Herrera and Max Wotell (#16 in Mets system)

Dodgers get Rich Hill (LHP) and Josh Reddick (COF) from the A's for Grant Holmes (RHP, 20, Consensus top 75 prospect), Frankie Montas (RHP, 23, top 100 prospect), and Jharel Cotton (RHP, 24)

The Marlins are going to send Collin Rea (RHP) back to the Padres after he left his first start with them with an injury. Unsure on how they will completely do this, as they are keeping Andrew Cashner who they also got in the trade. RHP Luis Castillo will be returning to the Marlins.

Rangers get DH Carlos Beltran from Yankees for RHP Dillon Tate (#4 pick last year)

Indians get OF Brandon Guyer from Rays for OF Nathan Lukes and RHP Jhonleider Salinas. Guyer is one of 5 players who have started at least 10 games at all 3 OF spots. Fills a big need and drills LHP. To make room, Juan Uribe has been DFA'd

Giants get LHP Will Smith from Brewers for C Andrew Susac and RHP Phil Bickford (2x 1st round pick, 21). That's a ton for a reliever. Wow.

Dodgers land RHP Jesse Chavez (4.57 era) from the Blue Jays for RHP Mike Bolsinger.

Blue Jays get RHP Scott Feldman from Astros for RHP Lupe Sanchez

Rangers get C Jonathon Lucroy and RHP Jeremy Jeffress from Brewers for a package that includes CF Lewis Brinson and RHP Luis Ortiz goodness, gracious.

Twins get LHP Hector Santiago from the Angels for RHP Ricky Nolasco and RHP Alex Meyer (former 1st round pick)

Cubs get RHP Joe Smith from the Angels for RHP Jesus Castillo (20, Class A)

Pirates get RHP Ivan Nova from Yankees

Giants get LHP Matt Moore from Rays for IF Matt Duffy, Chris Shaw, and SS Lucious Fox (former CEO of Wayne Enterprises)

Orioles get UT Steve Pearce from Rays

Mets get LHP Jon Niese from Pirates for LHP Antonio Bastardo

Blue Jays get LHP Francisco Liriano and OF Harold Ramirez from Pirates for LHP Drew Hutchison and PTBNL

Some rumors:

Blue Jays and Twins discussing Ervin Santana

Angels are shopping Joe Smith (Wright State), the Cubs are among the interested teams.

Pirates pushing hard after Matt Moore and/or Jake Odorizzi from the Rays as controllable pitchers.

Dodgers are shopping Yasiel Puig, appears that the White Sox are most likely.

Brewers still listening on Jonathon Lucroy after he vetoed his deal to the Indians. Appears that the Rangers are the favorites there.

Zack Cozart is close to going to the Mariners.

Tigers are pursuing pitching help. The Phillies Jeremy Hellickson and the Angels Hector Santiago are the most likely.

Apparently, the Padres and Marlins have announced a brand new trade, RHP Colin Rea for RHP Luis Castillo, which were 2 of the main pieces in that trade from the other day.

In related news, Harold Reynolds has no idea what he's talking about and has been constantly talking during this trade deadline special on MLB Network. He's so bad, glad that Fox took him off of the World Series.

With Aaron Sanchez nearing his innings limit, the Blue Jays deal for a couple of swing guys in Bolsinger and Feldman without giving up a whole lot.

A ton of moves being finalized in the final 15 minutes!

Winners:

Texas Rangers - had 2 major offensive holes and filled them both wonderfully with Lucroy and Beltran

San Francisco Giants - nothing huge, but get a couple of solid left handed arms whom they will have under team control past this year

Cleveland Indians - Andrew Miller may be the best reliever in the game and Brandon Guyer gives them excellent depth

New York Yankees - sellers for the first time in 25 years and they completely turned around their farm system and unloaded money. The Yankees will be absolutely insane from 2018 onward.

Losers:

Houston Astros - didn't have to do much, but only unloaded one of their better relievers when the Rangers went nuts is not good. Nothing bad, but really did nothing to improve their chances to win the AL West.

St. Louis Cardinals - got LHP Zach Duke and that's it. They have holes to fill and stood pat. Lot returning from injury soon, but you can't rely on that, IMO.

Miami Marlins - the Cashner part of their big trade is outstanding, but having Colin Rea get hurt immediately kills their rotation and they weren't able to make another deal to cover that.

Pirates did nothing to help themselves to make a post season run. All they did was to dump salary for "potential" starters.
