'09 Reds

Post by BOO YAH »

Read this article and I am getting more excited about this season.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring200 ... id=3989234

Hope to see a more exciting ballclub on the field this year. I believe we can be above .500.

What are your thoughts?

If the pitching holds up, I look for an outstanding year from this squad.

hopefully young means they have endurance. 162 is a lot of games to play, hopefully they can grind it out at 100% for that length. a simple playoff apperance would make me happy. of course if they make it to the playoffs i'll be upset if they dont win it all, but i am looking for baby steps

Baby steps is right.

What ever happened to Denorfia? I think I spelled that right. I heard he had alot of potential and then nothing. I'm guessing he got traded.

Chris was/is a good player but it took him a long time to develop. I don't think they traded him if I heard right they chose not to resighn him.
The reds have made it a point to build a strong team and it is showing in there minor leage teams. They have to stay on track and they will be a contender again. I just wish they would have kept kearns. AK was one of my favorite players.
I like the fact that they are a young team with no where to go but up!!!!!!!!

I think the Reds are a more solid team this year

C - Ramon Hernandez - a solid veteran
1B- Joey Votto - .297 average and over 20 homers last year
2B - Brandon Phillips - solid average and over 20 homers last year
3B - Edwin Encarnacion - always has a slow start, but hit close to 30 dingers last season
SS - Alex Gonzalez - is a question mark
RF - Jay Bruce - had a solid rookie campaign with over 20 dingers
CF - Wily Taveras - has the potential to steal 100 bases if he could just raise that OBP
LF - Chris Dickerson - was good in the time he was up last season

SP Aaron Harang - had a bad year last year, but still eats up innings
SP Bronson Arroyo - won 15 last season
SP Edinson Volquez - looked great before the ALL STAR break
SP Johnny Cueto - started to come on toward the season's end
SP - Several to chose from; just hope the 5th starter is better than the 5-20 record last year
RP Mike Lincoln - a solid reliever
Closer - Coco Cordero - good for about 35 saves

O&B, thanks for the info.

Boogerred, that lineup looks good. I hope they can mesh and build strong team chemistry.

So who do you guys think will get the fifth spot in the rotation? I imagine Homer Bailey and Micah Owings are the front runners, but what are your thoughts?

Edwin better get his defense on this year. I don't care how many homers he hits, it doesn't make up for being a horrible 3rd baseman. Cordero is not looking very good this year. It will be a while before he gets into a good rhythem.
Arroyo is going to have a solid year. Volquez and Cueto could be rotation staples for years to come. I really think Harang will be back in great form this year. He was due a bad year and had it. I don't think he was completly healthy last year and his mechanics were all bad. He kept dropping his arm to low on his delivery.
Phillips has to be the leader this year. It is his club and I think he will handle it well but time will tell.

Homer will be good this year not great but good. I really hope that they platoon the 5th spot that way we will have a chance to have some guys who can eat up innings out of the bull pin.

Well, I would be ok with Keppinger or even Hairston Jr. at third.

His defense is bad. He will make a spectacular play and then botch two easy ones, all in the same game. His .930 fielding percentage is horrible and definitely needs to be addressed.

I would love to see Keppinger and Hairston platoon at 3rd. Then trade Edwin and ding ding ding!!!!!!! Our D improves a ton.

I also hope that the Reds keep Norris Hopper on their roster, but I am afraid that they won't.

I don't know they have so many out fielders that are good. The got rid of freel to make room so I don't know if they will keep Hopper. I like Hopper very much but I just don't think he will be on the roster when the season starts.

If you meen dunn then you are wrong. Sure he hits a lot of homers but he strikes out to much and he sucks in the outfeild. Brandon phillips is the best player on the team and I think he will have a monster year.

I think Brandon Phillips will step into a leader role for this ball club. He seems to have the right attitude for that. It is a young team that should play with energy.

I had read somewhere that Edwin had admitted to trying to hit too many homeruns rather than just put the ball in play. He has soo much potential to be an impact player, but how long can a club wait for him to play up to that potential? If he is struggleing by mid season, I say put Keppinger at third or bring back Sabo. :122245

I too hope that Hopper is on the roster for the season.
