2020 Waverly 49 - 13 Portsmouth West

Post by smurray »

West travels to the jungle after an impressive opening week win over Notre Dame.
Waverly will need to avoid the HUGE comeback win letdown over a very good D3 Granville team to win.
Waverly will be favored but no way can they take West lightly.
Tigers need to enjoy the big win tonight but start preparing for the Senators on Sunday.

Any information on West????

West’s offensive and defensive lines are perhaps the best in the area. They can push guys off the ball. They held ND to 1 first down but had the bad play to open. West has 2 freshman WRs who can make some moves. West also played without Luke Bradford, West’s best returning player in the secondary. West does seem to struggle containing long passes which could be bad.

With all that being said. West’s key to winning this game will be running the ball down Waverlys throat and getting some pressure on Shanks. This could be a upset if West were to have more time of possession than Waverly. But I’m not sure of if they can contain Waverlys pass game. If West wins this game it should be low scoring, but if Waverly wins it’ll be a blowout.

Waverly 34-21. Waverly starts out a bit slow after coming off a huge week 1 game. Will pull after the 2nd half, playing Granville week 1 will pay dividends for Waverly.

West has to be able to control time of possession.

West will need to buckle down in the secondary. Granted it was a scrimmage, but Portsmouth lit them up through the air, I’d imagine Waverly has a much better passing game than Portsmouth.

Waverly will have the best passing game many teams will see around here, bar none.
Granville had some very good athletes in the defensive backfield but not too may high school teams around here are going to able to stop Shanks throwing to Futhey, Wolf, Shanks, Morrison, & Co. Shanks threw a couple picks last night that he would like to have back, that should be corrected in practice and watching film.
Waverly’s running game (by committee) was just enough to compliment the passing attack.

Defensively Waverly did well getting pressure on the very talented QB from Granville and the Tigers have a very good set of defensive backs.
Waverly will have to concentrate a lot on stopping the run - can’t let West rum down their throats.

There isn’t any “coasting” for any team.
Waverly will have to be focused this week as they prepare for West or the Senators could come in to the jungle and leave with the upset win.

No league game will be a given especially week 4 when the Pirates come to town and the game at Minford week 5. Oak Hill played St. Clairsville very tight so who knows what they bring to Waverly week 6.

It’s all 1 game at a time and next up is West.
Waverly MUST focus on West and correcting mistakes from week 1.

Waverly wins by 3 scores or more. West is improving and still young but waverly will flat sling the ball all over the place.

Waverly by a ton, they are better than last year (at week 1) by a lot. The QB has all the weapons he needs and then some

Waverly 48-14

They probably don't lose in the regular season.

As of now the weather looks to be exceptional Friday. Dry and 69 degrees at kickoff. Doesn't get any better than that.

Wonder if there is any chance DeWine relaxes the attendance policy so a few more folks can get in this week?

This ^^^^^.

The SOC2, based on last year and results from week one, have no easy outs. West is an old rival for the Tigers and the Senators will bring their A game to Raidiger Field.
