Mandatory Running Clock Rule

Post by kantucky »

Maybe this has been discussed already here but boy, I dont like it. It's only keeping a lot of younger kids and kids who dont get to play a lot from getting their chance to play in front of the crowd. As an Ironton fan, I've always enjoyed seeing both schools subs play too. They work just as hard at practice and PF as anyone else

Matt ash, I appreciate you being there yesterday 😂

I think it should be for the 4th Quarter only!

As someone that played, it’s a very good rule. They already have a JV game

I hate it. It’s perfect time to get some of the younger kids experience with varsity line and just good learning session. Way different on Friday nights then JV Monday’s.

There are a lot of schools around here that don’t field JV teams/schedules. They just don’t have the numbers.

Need to amend it. The team thats up by 30+ And has the ball should have a running clock. Opposite team thats down and has the ball the running clock should stop

I figure a fan pays to see the whole game. For me that includes seeing the young ones get under the lights

MOST coaches always empty their benches

The Northwest vs East game the other night was a running clock halfway through the first quarter. Not very fun to watch.

What was the score I know at one point I heard it was 30-0 in the 1st? Any type of running clock in the 1st half is an agreement between the 2 coaches, so while it might not have been fun to watch that's one you'll need to take up with your coach.

Running clock shouldn’t start until 2nd half.

It didn't. Don't know what I was thinking, losing my mind.

Running clock can start at any time if both teams agree

It’s not well written
The clock rule encourages the winning team to keep scoring in order to keep the running clock
Makes for some crazy scores

It's not well written why?? Curious as to how you read it. Up 30 in the 2nd half automatic continuous clock, score drops below 30 clock goes back to normal time keeping. Running clock in the 1st half is an agreement between both coaches that is initiated by the coaches and not the ref. Pretty cut and dry I think, unless there's some sort of loop hole I'm unaware of.

Running clock in football and, I believe, basketball tournament games. So many bad teams, they really are doing everyone a favor with the running clock. Sad, but too true.

I think it’s a great rule. I do think it should be moved to 35 points however. JV games are for developing young kids in my opinion. I believe the rule should find its way to basketball as well

Personally I think once the spread gets to 30 in the second half the clock should roll even if the losing team gets it below 30
They shouldn’t have let it get that bad
Too much risk of injury
Just warm up the bus and get headed home

The BEST thing about people from Wellston is that they have JACKSON on their license plates!

I don't like it. Many teams don't have JV teams.

Let the coaches decide during the game if they want a running clock.

I’m sure you’d find that, if it came to that, the vast majority of coaches (say, 80%) would still agree to run it. And, probably half of the instances where a coach decides to dick it up and refuse would result in the losing team just walking off.
