Monroe Central 0 - 41 Fort Frye

Post by EasternDspy »

Cadets 2 in the region. Could be the last meeting of this rivalry.

Sad to see The Seminoles fall so far. Woodsfield is a long way from everywhere, and the local economy has really been decimated.

Monroe is better this year. Rose-Burton and Kilburn are studs. That being said they are just not good in the trenches. Fort will run for days.

Should be a quick game. No way this isn't a 6 TD difference by the half. Sad for those in Woodstick.

Think Cadet starters get the 6 TD lead and then rest the starters for Wheeling Central.
Seminoles can't get enough kids out to develop any depth. Coach Ischy deserves better. Great offensive mind.

Couldn't agree more. Simply too many bodies wearing Fort Frye jerseys.
Would agree with EDSpy, they've got to end this series.

Monroe is off the schedule for 2020 replaced with Trimble.

efarns - Thanks for sharing the reality of the situation in Monroe County, as you are 100% correct. Folks really don't understand the long-term impact of the loss of the major employer in the county, and how it impacts the schools and sports programs. The population in the school district of families with school age children continues to decline. The days of Woodsfield having 45 up to 60 boys playing HS football are over, at least for the time being. With continued low numbers in the future, I don't envision year-in, year-out success like Chief Jay enjoyed over his storied coaching career.

Hopefully, some things will change and the economy there improves, but unfortunately, I don't see it happening anytime soon.

good points Steely
Monroe Central sports may not recover for years. Be a tough time to be an AD or a coach.

and kudos to Fort Frye for picking up Trimble.

Cadets are on another level for sure.

Unfortunately, we may be witnessing the end of high school football for a lot of schools in our area. Fort Frye is bucking the trend right now, but I do wonder how long they can swim upstream.

Amazing how FF has transformed from a basketball power to a football one.

After three big games in a row, I would not be at all surprised if Fort Frye comes out flat for this one. It may be closer than we expect.

Looking at the recent history, I think that 2015 game was a turning point in Fort Frye football. Woodsfield/Monroe Central leads this series by about a thousand games to six. Winning a close game over a strong Seminoles squad was a signal to everyone that Fort Frye could find a way to win over quality football teams. Up until then, the Cadet rebuilding project was predicated on overpowering a lot of weak programs. Beating Monroe Central started to show they could win big games.
