Time to form the D7 and solve the Logan, Marietta , Warren issue

Post by mattash »

With schools having really low numbers and being a risk of season cancellations or game cancellations it's time to even the playing field and form the Southeastern Ohio D7 Conference or "D7".

D7
Green
Notre Dame
Symmes Valley
South Gallia
Western
Eastern Beaver
Eastern Meigs
Federal Hocking
Miller
South Gallia
Southern
Waterford

Everyone play each other one time except 1 team (12 schools).

This can help solve the TVC and Northwest issue.

Northwest back to the SOC2 replacing Oak Hill who goes to the TVC

TVC Big
Athens
Logan
Warren
Marietta
Meigs
Vinton County

TVC Medium
NY
Trimble
Fort Frye
River Valley
Wellston
Belpre
Alexander
Oak Hill

SOC Football

Burg
Waverly
West
Northwest
Valley
Minford

This hints at district play for the small schools. I know Ohio has a strong tradition of conference play and scheduling, but given playoff emphasis and ever lower numbers at most schools, maybe a system like Kentucky's might be the solution.

If schools cannot get enough to play 11 man football making another division won't help unless the Div is 8 man

I still don’t get why the TVC has to be the one to take teams in or make changes. It is one of the few conferences that has been successful and not failed in this area, OVC and SOC would be the others. Besides an uneven number in the Ohio it is fine right where it is. It needs one team, not a split, not more than one, not three divisions. It is unfortunate that other conferences and schools are struggling, but it isn’t the TVC’s responsibility to fix everybody’s problems.

I think it's the key to keeping football at small schools. Even playing field might inspire more kids to come out . I'm sure getting beat by Trimble by 50 doesn't help players wanting to come out. I know it won't help them get ready for playoffs but it would make regular season fun.

Wahama dropping out and if Fed Hock or Miller starts canceling games due to numbers then TVC will have an issue. Just a thought. Nothing may not need changed. Just seeing Green with 14 players, fed hock and miller with less than 20 made me think of the topic.

It’s the only stable league so everyone loves to add teams to it

I think the rest are pretty stable. SoC and OVC is solid

Miller had 25 or 26 on Saturday.

mattash I used to be against any change but with Wahama leaving and the numbers dropping in the Hocking...maybe it is time to look at this.
My only concern would be the travel nightmares under the D7 lineup.
formerfcfan, that is good news for the Falcons but perhaps the best time to check numbers would be at the end of the season as we look to next year.
We've had teams cancelling their JH schedules.
If we look at the JH programs and check the numbers for game 10, that should give us an idea for next year.

Out of all the ideas for new conferences in the area, this one might make the most sense logically.

I could see Federal, Southern, Eastern, Waterford, and Belpre staying with the TVC Hocking. Miller could join or might look northward.
I don't see Belpre willingly joining a league that contained Fort Frye and Trimble. There is no one playing football for them that can remember beating either team.
Now you throw in NY and that would be quite the upgrade to their league schedule.
It is a fit enrollment wise so they might go along.

Western suspended the season this year. Football at Western may be short lived.
