If they were smart, they would move this game to a Thursday night.

I’m doubtful they do it, Portsmouth and Valley will be playing on Thursday if it’s the same as last season

This year we will have good skill but a young line. Seems like in football it’s hard to line up the good lines and skill players.
You're a Bulldog fan, but some of your posts make no sense. No skill last year? They averaged 36 pts/game. Maxfield, Trainer, Gail, Markins, Moore were on the outside, and Adams (over 20 TD) at RB. That sure seems like plenty of skill to me. You're correct about the lines for both years, but not even close on the skill part.

Athens had good skill compared to South east Ohio teams. I was comparing to D3 playoff teams. Great line tho

Be an alright statement if it was 2018. Lol

Let me try this irrelevant game. Waverly only beat NY 31-14. End of story.

Do you know how bad it would be if Athens played Wheelersburg or Ironton? Wouldn’t be a game.

I hate to be “that” guy but isn’t Athens and NY a big rivalry game? so they are going to want to make sure they beat them and beat them by as much as they can?

That can be viewed in different ways. Yeah it's a rivalry & I'm sure NY showed up a lot more hyped & prepared to play Athens than Waverly.

What does that have to do with anything?

The last series Athens had with Waverly the Bulldogs clobbered the Tigers both times.
67-14 in 2012
42-21 in 2011

Versus another TVC-Ohio team (Nelsonville-York) Waverly was defeated 38-13 in 2017 before winning 31-14 last year.

In its last four games versus the Ohio Division Waverly is a combined (1-3) and have been outscored 161-79.

No speculation in that post, just stating facts.

A little off the subject but I have some questions for the Athens faithful. A few years ago I watched the Athens basketball team play a district game at the Convo. Your teams record was outstanding and Joe Burrow was on the team. Very few Athens fan showed up for the game. Why such little support? Was it just a matter of not supporting "basketball"? I've always been curious.

Did Athens have strong fan support when they went on their epic playoff run in football? (all the way to the championship game)

What can we expect in terms of fan support for the Bulldogs when they come to Waverly on August 30th?

Ironton told Athens it would rather play 9 games than play 10 and lose to Athens.

It can be hit or miss with Athens. Sometimes they travel really well and other times not so much.
I would imagine this game would draw a pretty decent crowd from the Athens fans.

The last time Athens came to Waverly to play a football game was 2011. Athens won 42-21. Waverly went 3-7 that season and Athens went 10-1.

If I remember correctly (not positive :) ) Athens brought a pretty nice size crowd. By most indications this should be a close competitive game this time around. And it's always more exciting an enjoyable when the visiting team brings a bunch of fans. :)

Kicker. wrote: Fri May 31, 2019 3:42 pm I know this is a bit too early to put big game implications in this but what other big games out of conference games does Athens have?
D4 or D5 Waverly?
D2 Parkersburg South
D2 Logan
D3 Jackson
Waverly D4, what’s the outlook on Logan this season as well? Jackson should be good as well I’m assuming and don’t know much about Parkersburg South. Just was curious to when it comes close to playoff time who’s beaten who and has a lot of points
I don't think size matters much. In the past I remember Athens defeating Waverly, but I also remember Waverly taking it to Athens. Should be a good game no matter and there will be good points for the winner.
