That 2000 Portsmouth team gave Vinton County it’s worst loss in the history of the school. A 60-0 beatdown.

The people in VC argue about the 1991 and 1993 teams as to who was the best ever. I put together a formula and ranked the top ten teams in school history.

1991 was Vinton County’s only 10-0 season but we failed to qualify for the playoffs. The 1993 team finished 9-1 and lost in the regional finals to Ironton in overtime. Both were great teams.

Beat us 30-6 that year in playoffs but our quarterback had a separated shoulder “on his throwing arm” and couldn’t throw but 15 yards! We shut them down second half after adjustments but couldn’t throw it like we should have! Had the best linemen I went against in high school had a center that was a biggin. We were 8-3

Wellston Logan Portsmouth gallia all had dream teams in 2000

Logan lost to state champion upper Arlington in elite 8. Portsmouth made it to final 4
1999 was gallias best team

In 2000 Jackson beat VC 46-6

I'm a young guy. 21. So I don't remember much. But the 1999 team was special at GA.

The early-mid 2000s were the best teams, that I remember. 03 and 06 stand out, in particular

06 GA, I believe, beat Ironton at the Tank, breaking a long losing streak there for the Blue

1986 Meigs Marauders. Undefeated with a 10-0 record including 8 shut outs. Only have up 28 points all year. 9-1 in 1985 and 9-1 in 1987.

Sorry about the fat finger typing in last post. Lol. The 1986 Meigs team only “gave” up 28 all year.

Those were very good teams for Meigs

1967 was a hell of a team as well. Went 9-1 to win their only SEOAL title. Perry Kennedy won SEOAL MVP as a lineman and Coach Chancey was coach of the year.

Meigs 20 Wahama 0
Meigs 36 Fairfield 0
Meigs 12 Athens 8
Meigs 8 Gallia 6
Meigs 14 Logan 8
Meigs 14 Wellston 6
Meigs 0 Ironton 8
Meigs 50 Jackson 14
Meigs 28 NY 0
Meigs 36 Parkersburg South 0

Remember back in 1981, Eastern not only was 10-0
But averaged like 5 turnovers each game and
Was still 10-0, you never hear of that and
They had talent all over the place too they had
Nick Lenard who was 2nd team all state and they
Had Dave Gaul and Dave went on to play at OU
and If I remember right Dave played against north
Galia with a broken collarbone, that team was
Loaded with butt-kickers.

Oak Hill - 2009 and 2010. They were 10-0 and went to the second round of the playoffs where they lost to Ridgewood 20-12. In 2010 they played a stronger schedule, but still finished 9-1 with the starting QB out in the one lose. They lost to Frederictown in the regional final 28-21.

That was a good year for NY too. They won the state title in D4. Brian Mays went on to start at ILB at OU. So him and Gaul were teammates I guess.

I had not noticed this topic before now. but as far as the ironton fighting tigers. it would be hard to argue that the 79 and 89 teams were not the best as they both won the state. 99 was a state runner up year, and the ironton tigers made a 1st down on 4th that would have won the game. and we got hosed by the refs. it was awful. then in the state game with wausseon there was the field goal to win the game that was not good. you cain't make this stuff up. the 1978 team may have been the best ever. they steamrolled everybody by huge margins. but were not able to play a game because of a school district being on strike. seems like meigs or logan. and cost the tigers a playoff appearance. then the following year won their 1st in 1979. lutz had said on numerous occasions that he felt that was his best team ever. hard to say about the years prior to 1972 as the playoffs had not started yet. but they played monster schedules then, teams like Columbus east, Watterson, and the like.
