FYI....Danville's field is not at their school. It's at the village park. As you come into town on US 62 you pretty much can't miss it.
If you need an address for GPS purposes:
900 South Market St
Danville
It will put you right in front of park/field.

Will be a huge test for the Tartans but scheduling a team like this is needed, especially to help come playoff time.

Blue Devils win at Welcome Stadium

DAYTON — Danville is the smallest team that Division III Ponitz Tech will play all season, but on Friday the Blue Devils made a meal out of the bigger team with a 31-6 nonconference win in the season opener for both teams.
In a game played at Dayton’s Welcome Stadium, Danville (1-0) used the run to control the tempo, and mixed in passes at key moments. The Blue Devils rushed 35 times for 262 yards, and Skyler Durbin completed 9 of 19 passes for 100 yards and two scores.

The Golden Panthers (0-1) had a hard time establishing the run, finishing with 127 yards on 41 carries, and completing just 2 of 3 passes for 61 yards. Danville had 11 first downs to Ponitz’s nine, punted twice and made three penalties for 41 yards.
The Blue Devils’ first possession closed out on a sixyard TD pass from Durbin to Brice Berger with 7:18 left in the first quarter. The Golden Panthers came back with an 11-yard run by Massiyah Smith at the 2:09 mark, but a missed conversion run left Danville up, 76.

From then until end of the half, the two teams mostly just moved the clock, only to break the stalemate with a 31-yard field goal by the Blue Devils’ Reese Dorsey with 3:56 remaining that left Danville ahead, 10-6, at the half.
In the second half, the Blue Devils’ defense continued to keep Ponitz off the board, giving the offense time to get going. Chris Greenawalt hauled in an 11- yard TD pass with 7:03 left in the third quarter, then added a three-yard TD run at the 9:48 mark of the fourth quarter for a 24-6 lead. Greenawalt nearly reached 100 yards for the game on his 30-yard TD scamper with 7:45 to play.

Durbin was a 100-yard performer with his legs as well as his arm, rushing 20 times for 120 yards to lead Danville. Greenawalt finished with 98 yards on 11 carries, and had one catch for 11 yards. Tyler Mickley caught five passes for 71 yards and ran twice for 14 yards, and Corbin Hazen gained 31 yards on two runs. Berger caught two passes for 18 yards.
Smith led the Golden Panthers with 86 yards on 17 carries, and QB Craig Poythress had 12 carries for 56 yards.

From reading the newspaper article East will need to focus on the run and play stout defense, these two are no strangers as they played each other in the playoffs last year.

Danville With Another Test

Danville looked pretty darn good on the first week of the high school football season, but they are in for another test on week two coming up on Friday night.

The Blue Devils (1-0) beat Ponitz Tech, from the Dayton area, (31-6) last week. Coach Ed Honabarger says it was a pretty good win and one that is going to make them better. “We will definitely take the win. There is a lot of stuff we can improve on. I’m happy we went on the road about two and half hours down the road to Dayton playing a D-3 team that is probably going to win about six, seven games and came away with a 31-6 win. That is definitely going to help us down the road,” said Honabarger.

Honabarger says this can be another good year for the Blue Devils, who are in the playoffs year after year, but he says they are going to have to avoid injuries along the way. “We are going to have to stay healthy we don’t have great depth. We are probably playing about 17 or 18 kids, probably like most schools are. Being healthy throughout the year is a big key,” he said.

Portsmouth East comes to Danville on Friday night. The Tartans belted South Gallia (46-14) last Friday. Honabarger says they are a team with size they will have to contend with. “They are a big, physical team. Game one they had a lot of big plays, the quarterback rolled out and threw it deep. Our defensive backs need to make sure we keep track of where the skilled people are for them,” he told Swankonsports.com on Monday, “They have a big lineman that was going to go the Ole Miss. He had verbally committed and now he has reopened his recruiting because of the coaching change down there. He is really a dominate lineman, so we have our work cut out for us.”

Danville plays Sugarcreek Garaway next week before they start play in the Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference on week four at Highland. Honabarger is a believer in playing a tough schedule because he says that is the way you find out hour good you are. “Against better competition who see who is going to rise up and make plays and who might crumble under the pressure. Our kids didn’t do that. We had some adversity against Ponitz Tech. They took the opening drive and we had a nice goal line stand. We gave them a short field because we were trapped on the one-yard line and they scored, but after that our defense played really well. The last three quarters we only gave up about 40 yards,” said Honabarger.

I am a East fan and will agree that Danville is favored in this game. I won't pick against the Tartans though and I believe that they will give Danville all they want. I hope East can pull off the upset.

Danville is the best D7 public program that, just hasn't for some reason, cracked state finals.

Lots of respect for East, but this is going to be a tough game and a disgusting nightmare of a bus ride. 3 hours north through terrible rain.

Danville has the current record of having the most playoff wins (20) without ever making a state final.
(3 time state semi finalist '99, '04 & '15)
