Burg is a system team like Tri Valley. Burg doesn’t have big time athletes like Parker. Parker would have been the entire Burg offense
This statement couldn't be more untrue. Matthews is every bit the athlete Parker is and Holden was probably a slight click above him. All three of those kids are just on a level above of the rest of the players in this immediate area.

I got a chance to snoop down and watch some conditioning. The line is not as big as years past. But they seem to be conditioning really well. Not sure who the starters are yet but looks like a lot of them trying hard. Have some speed at skill spots. Still a little ways to go but it’s fun to watch the kids prepare for the upcoming season.

Kind of funny I thought. Just a kid having fun. Haven’t heard much out of the Trojan camp. I’m going to have to check them out and see the number of kids and what’s going on.

Anyone know who the front runner is to replace Lattimore at QB? I know the one kid got hurt and missed the rest of the season last year, and the other kid I believe was a pretty small freshman?

I think it’s between roe and Duncan. Rowe been taking a lot of defense reps. Duncan taking a lot of qb reps. There both very different. Duncan more of a pocket passer and roe runs all over the place.

I have a good feeling in my gut about this years. A couple worries but there working hard. All the lineman are conditioning more than I’ve seen in the past. Going to be a lot of kids who are new and need extra coaching. Not because there bad but because there new. The qb is the real mystery. I know who I would start but I’m a outsider supporting my city lol.

They are getting the guts run out of them. Sad news is our kicker quit. So replacing it but the one practicing now is doing ok for being new. This team will be fast. Line will be faster too. Depth is a issue but there coming along fine. Qb still a mystery but the Rowe kid looks really good.

hate to lose any kid. with low numbers conditioning is key to performance. Lots can change daily so let the coaches make the decisions who plays and looks good or looks slow or whatever. as stated earlier support the team, coaches and the school

Absolutely Mr. Ref, why get on a forum and ask questions and give opinions...what a silly idea.

I went to practice yesterday to see how many kids came out......and I counted 42, give or take 1 or 2. Depth, as beergogglebluez said, will definitely be an issue. Good to hear that they are running a lot.......with the numbers being rather low, conditioning is that much more important. The Trojans have got to be in shape if they want any hope of winning the OVC and making the playoffs. Good conditioning usually results in less injuries as well. Hopefully the kicking game will be come around because that is a very underrated part of football.

GO TROJANS!!!

42 is what I counted. This team will be fast. One of the fastest Trojan teams in years. If that speed is utilized this team will be dangerous. The offensive and defensive line will be faster than years past. Granted it’s the line but they have impressed me. We have really fast receivers. In Portsmouth’s past that’s meant nothing but we have to use them. Of course Parker is fast. Still a lot of work to do but there shaping up nicely.

Hopefully they can find a QB to utilize those fast receivers and take some pressure off of Parker.

Beergogglesbluez and Proud Pirate 63 brings up excellent points about the Trojans passing attack...... establish a QB that can make plays with his arm, and utilize receivers that can get open and take pressure off the run game (Talyn Parker). We must be able to throw the ball effectively when needed.....and there will be times during the course of a 10 game season where the Trojans will have to convert a 3rd and long or a 4th down play via the pass. The inability to do so could be crippling to the overall success of the offense. Running the football is still the most fundamental part of offensive football, but it can bog down when a team cannot make plays through the air.

A better Trojan passing offense will make a better Trojan football team. More first downs will be converted, more time will be chewed off the clock, the opposing offense will stay on the sidelines, and the Portsmouth defense will get a chance to rest. Many more pros than cons for the Trojans having an adequate passing game.

GO TROJANS!!

All different positions and athletes. Holden, absolutely a beast, but put him 7yds deep and give him the rock 30 times, you would see, he’s not an RB. Parker wouldn’t do the things at WR, but would be productive on the slip screens and sort stuff Holden did 80% of the time. Matthews is by far the best at QB and running that offense, would have success at RB and would at WR, but at each their own position they are equally impressive. As for next level talent, Parker over Matthews because Parker fits a college system. Holden if he focused on it could have (like Parker) would be able to go about anywhere. But he chose basketball

Spot on but Matthews is the best free safety I’ve seen play at the burg. His close out is awesome.
