Article:Whitehall 34 London 15

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Last night I took in the London(9-0) at Whitehall(8-1) game, in the pouring rain on a super muddy grass field.
Going in I thought this was going to be an all out sports war, but the rain made it one of those games that was never in doubt, after the first quarter. The mud made it hard to read the numbers, so this article will be a little light.

Whitehall would fumble the ball on their first drive of the game. It appeared that the ball popped out of the hands of Christian Gordon and landing on it was Jayvion Stevens of the Red Raiders, just seventeen seconds into the game.

The Rams defense, though would stand stout after the turnover and hold London to negative two yards, on seven plays. You could tell right away that the weather was going to cause problems for both teams. It was just a question of which team could overcome and succeed.

With 6:15 left in the quarter London would put the ball on the ground and coming up with it for the Rams was Isaiah Oney.
From my seat it looked like K.J.Price coughed up the ball. It was a very hard to see the numbers of the players and the P.A. guy, who did a decent job, was of no help with the call, as he too was having problems.

After the recovered fumble the Rams wasted little time covering the thirteen yards needed, for the games first touchdown.Raymell Byrd would pick up four yards on two straight runs and then he ended the drive with a one yard touchdown plunge, with the aid of some hard work by his big guys up front. A bad snap and hold on the point after attempt kept this a 6-0 game, with 4:42 left in the quarter.

K.J.Price took the ensuing kickoff at his own thirty eight yard line and did not stop running until he reached the Whitehall end zone, to lock this one up at six apiece. The Price ran in the two point conversion try to make this an 8-6 London lead with 4:42 left.

The Rams would waste little time in retaking the lead, when Byrd took off on a sixty two yard score of his own. Byrd never really seemed to be affected by the slippery, muddy field.Byrd converted the two point conversion on a run to his right, making this a 14-8 game, at the 4:23 mark of the first quarter.

The Rams would get a nicely throw pass from Byrd to Gordon, who bobbled the ball almost straight up in the air before catching it and racing for a twenty nine yard touchdown. The point after kick by #87(NOT ON THE ROSTERS) was blocked by Gavin Bonn, keeping this a 20-8 game. The drive went for sixty two yards and lasted for nine plays.

Price would take the ensuing kickoff on his own ten yard line and return it to the Whitehall thirty nine yard line, at the 11:39 mark of the second quarter. But the Rams defense would stand tall and hold the Red Raiders to negative four yards and force a punt. On the punt the Rams fumbled the ball and out of the muddy pile, with the ball was a white London Jersey. with the number covered up. London would fumble the ball back to the Rams at the 8:40 mark of the quarter. It appeared that Price fumbled and Drevon Pinkney came up with it, but with the mud covering most of the Jersey, it was hard to be sure.

Byrd would pick up forty yards on another nice run and then he would end the eleven play, ninety yard drive with a three yard touchdown run. Byrd then connected with #11(NOT ON THE ROSTERS) for the two point conversion to make this a 28-8 game, with 4:08 left in the half.

The Rams would be forced to punt at the 7:07 mark of the third quarter, the snap was low, causing Melvin Tinsley Jr to mishandle the ball, he was able to secure the ball, only to be tackled on his own five yard line, giving the ball back to London on the turnover on downs.
The Red Raiders needed one play to put the ball in the end zone, with Price doing the honors. The point after kick from Eric Noble was good, making this a 28-15 game.

The fourth quarter seemed to fly by, with the weather winning the battle over both teams, but with 6:02 left in the contest Isaiah Oney broke a tackle on his own fifteen made one more move and headed off to the end zone, for a ninety yard touchdown to make this a 34-15 game and that would be the last score of the game.

Whitehall will wait and see if they host a playoff game next week or go on the road, while London looks to be heading to Cincinnati to play Taft or Indian Hill. Nothing is official as far as the playoffs are concerned, until the Saturday games are completed later today.
