Article: Kenton Ridge 47 Shawnee 30

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Last night I made a rare trip to Springfield to catch the Thursday Night Lights battle between Shawnee at Kenton Ridge.
The weather was cold and as Windy as it has been all season, making things tough on the players and very uncomfortable for the large group of fans, who braved the elements.

Using the rosters from Hudl and Maxpreps
On the opening kickoff Andrew Good fielded the ball and took off toward the left sideline, where he would not be stopped until he was all the way down to the Shawnee thirty two yard line. However the great field position was wasted, when the opening drive netted just two yards. The Braves defense forced two incompletions on the drive, with one coming on fourth down.

The Cougars offense was right back on the field and it looked like they had sixty four yard touchdown, but it was called back because of an illegal man down field. Kenton Ridge would recover nicely from the touchdown being called back, when Drew Miller hauled in a six yard pass from Dylan Lemen, with 5:14 left in the quarter. The point after kick by #5(NOT ON EITHER ROSTER) was successful making this a 7-0 game.

The Kenton Ridge defense dominated the next series they took the field for.
First, it was #42(not on either roster) getting to Robbie Glass for a one yard loss. Then it was #5(NOT ON EITHER ROSTER) sacking Glass for a two yard loss. A punt followed putting the dangerous Cougars offense back on the field.

The Cougars needed just four plays to get on the scoreboard again. This time it was a seventy yard run by Dylan Lemen, with 39.9 seconds left on the clock. The point after kick made this a 14-0 game.

The Braves would start their next drive on their own thirty two yard line and started with the a completed pass, their first. From there the Braves would run ten more plays on the drive, with the last being a five yard quarterback run from Robbie Glass. #32 Nick Humphreys had his point after kick blocked by Robert Cordle, keeping this a 14-6 game, with8:09 remaining in the half.

The night of long drives continued after the Cougars got the ball back This time their drive took eleven plays to go fifty eight yards, with the ending being a five yard touchdown catch by Carson Jones. The point after kick again was good, making this a 21-6 score, with 4:18 left.

Kenton Ridge would score again at the 3:23 mark, when Andrew Good took a pick all the way to the house to make this a 27-6 game.
Good read the pass play, then made a quick step to make the pick and was able to score as easy as anyone has ever scored before.

Shawnee would respond on their next drive.
First it as a Robbie Glass twelve yard run. Then a Glass to #8(NOT ON EITHER ROSTER) down to the Kenton Ridge two.
From there # 8 closed out the drive with a two yard run to make this a 27-12 game. The drive totaled eighty four yards and totaled ten plays.

Kenton Ridge looked to have another drive started, with Carson Jones taking off for thirty one yards and then it was a twenty three yard run by Calvin Dibert but time the half ended before they could cause any more damage.

Shawnee would get a twenty four yard reception from Pete Mueller to set up a fourteen yard touchdown run from Robbie Glass. Glass had to reverse field and then out run the defense to the far side of the field to get into the end zone. Dibert would pick off a two point conversion pass to keep this a 27-18 game, with 7:46 left in the third. This drive lasted for twelve plays and totaled seventy one yards.

The Cougars used a leaping catch from Dibert, who used all of his 6-3 frame to make the catch and pick up forty yards to set up their next score. That score came on a one yard run from Lemen. the point after kick would make this a 34-18 game, with 4:18 left. This was a quick five play, seventy yard drive.

The Cougars got a pick by Dibert, with 2:55 left in the quarter. Dibert had slowly taken this game over and did so in a very quiet way.
The kid seems to come up big every time his squad needed big.

On the ensuing drive Andrew Good made a nice forty one yard catch to get things started.
The Braves defense would end the quarter with a Skylar Wood sack on Lemen.

The fourth quarter was the most exciting of the game, with the teams combining for four scores.
Kenton Ridge used a reverse to Drew Miller to pick up seven yards down to the Braves four yard line. From there Carson Jones would go the final four yards for the score. The point after kick made the score 41-18, with 11:48 left in the game.

Shawnee would go on a nine play, sixty yard drive that came to an end on a five yard run from Robbie Glass. Te touchdown was set up by a nice catch from Drew Mitch. The two point try failed and this remained a 41-24 game. with 8:41 left.

Mueller would recover the onside kick to give the Braves the ball right back.
The Braves would need just four plays to go the forty four yards needed to score again. The score came on a Glass to Luke Myers that covered thirty two yards. The two point run was again stuffed, leaving this a 41-30 game.

The Cougars would get a twenty yard run and then a twenty nine yard touchdown run from Lemen, after
the point after kick this was a 47-30 game. with 5:59 left.

The Cougars ended any threat of Shawnee scoring again, when Andrew Good picked off Glass, with 1:15 left.
