If Athens doesn't make the playoffs it is their own fault. They are in a very good small conference, not because of Logan or anyone else they play outside of the TVC. Outside of the TVC games Athens, right now, needs to schedule programs that usually have winning records. I don't think they will do that because to do so they would have to go against the reason they started the downfall of the SEOAL. Athens should be playing teams like Jackson, Sheridan, Chillicothe and maybe Waverly.

For the love of God, can we just one time talk about the game at hand as opposed to Athens, schedule, SEOAL, TVC???

You guys have literally beat that horse to death.

4 trips to playoffs since joining the TVC
Only 1 in what, 100 years playing in the SEOAL?

Like I said, AD & coaches know what they are doing. Don't stub your toe at Fairland and 2018 would be 5 trips in 8 years.
A little honesty in all of these posts without a bunch of spin and fake news would be nice.

2 of those 4 trips came with what will very likely prove to be the best squad that Athens will ever field. A former squad with a current starting QB for SEC powerhouse LSU, a BIG 10 player at Northwestern and a LOT of other role players. Chance are that won't happen very often and chances are better than not it won't happen again. Even with those (2) 10-0 years and the great runs you made as I recall you were the 4 or 5 seed entering Week 11. There is a reason why, and I believe one of those years Jackson was also a 10-0 seed and barely above you.

When 10-0 puts you in middle of pack, and 9-1 puts you on the bubble there is a reason. Heck 5-4 (9 games) Bishop Watterson made the playoffs in 2015, but look at their schedule.

Everyone (well everyone that is objective) know why the move was made by Athens (hint it wasn't gas prices). In fairness to Athens it was't 100% because of competition. But Athens people need to quit making it sound like it was 100% about something else (and especially the gas price argument, that's dumb).

A lot of people have made mention of it. When you have Jackson, Chillicothe, Logan, Gallia and Athens within basically an hour or less circle of you (ok maybe not GA/Logan) then Weeks 1-4 should be most if not all of some of those games. Then at 9-1 or 10-0 there probably is zero need to worry - for Athens or anyone else for that matter. You can relive some of the "glory" of the SEOAL by taking Athens, GA, Jackson, Logan and starting your season with some of those games, even some Thursday or Saturday games to let old SEOAL fans come watch them play.

Just an opinion, but I lived through the heyday of the rivalries as a fan and in some sports as a player. It was fun. No one is going to tell me that 1980's or 90's match up against Athens-Logan was not exciting with some good banter. Can you imagine 1992 Athens and Logan if a thing called Twitter existed lol...talk about shenanigans and smack talk. The SEOAL was fun for 90% of its existence let's not make it sound like it wasn't.

Meanwhile the FAC this year has some good rivalries started - Hillsboro and Jackson and Jackson and Chilli starting to develop some "good" "dislike" for each other lol, I am sure Athens and some of their TVC opponents feel the same way.

By the way I pick Athens this week. Wellston has given them some close games last couple of years but I don't think this is one of those years.

There, hijacked thread is back on track.

It was a lot more competitive & balanced league with more $ in the stands for sure. You never have rivalries when it's nearly always one sided. The Logan game was a 7 pointer this year with only one win under their belt. That says a lot right there.

I bet Logan, Jackson, and Gallia went to state a lot in such a great league. Those teams would never lose by 30 week 11 and then that team loses by 30 week 12..... oh wait

At least they played in the playoffs all those years. In the last 35 years Athens was in the SEOAL (1972-2007)they won 2 co-championships and in their 1 playoff game got beat 42-0. They never won an outright title , that's why they jumped ship. Ironton won 7 titles in that timeframe and they left the league the first time in 1984. Then Jackson, Gallipolis and Logan all won multiple titles and Marietta and Warren even won 1 or 2. "COMPETITIVE"

And the TVC Athens county has been to state 4 times since 13. Played some of the states greatest programs and you are talking like playing average teams that always get blown out in the playoffs is a big deal

Just saying, I love reading the back and forth banter! Haha

As for the game, Athens wins by 4 scores.

Wellston looks like 100% run. Athens run defense is very good. If Wellston can’t throw the ball this will be over fast

Lower grades look to be down for Athens. Haven't seen anything on Wellston's up coming. Next year should still have some good players

Athens won youth league championship last year. Logan has some dead years coming up but I heard their youth program is getting better. Numbers in football across the board are down at most schools. Athens true enrollment is around 230 to 250 top three grades tho. Athens is making the poor out of district kids go back to Nelsonville, Alexander, Trimble, and Fed Hock. Weird we get stuck with 400 kids the other schools kick out.

They live by me. That’s Athens school district. You were looking for Doseck. She lived right on the school district line.

A lot of those county kids are the reason Athens has been so successful. I’m sure Federal Hocking would love to see Athens go to a closed district!
