Region 11 Playoff Watch

Post by 93Bulldog »

DIII, Region 11 update

It was a roller coaster ride of possible computer points last night for Athens. Warren was leading before falling 21-20 to Oak Glenn and Vinton County was up 21-7 before falling late to Minford 28-27. Both wins would have been huge for the Bulldogs and their hopes of making the post season. Six teams look to be locks at this point: Eastmoor, Granville, Bellbrook, Hartley, Sheridan and the winner of next weeks Jackson/Hillsboro game. That only leaves two spots with Columbus DeSales, Athens, loser of Jackson/Hillsboro, Zanesville and possibly even Bellefontaine and Goshen all battling to get in.

Big games week 8:

#4 Hartley vs #7 DeSales
#6 Hillsboro vs #8 Jackson
#11 Bellefontaine vs Jonathan Alder (5-2)
#12 Zanesville vs Dover (5-2)
#5 Sheridan vs New Lex (5-2)

Goshen has zero chance to get in unless they beat Clinton Massie....which, well, isn’t happening. DeSales also may find themselves on the outside looking in if they lose the next two weeks. If Bellefountaine loses anymore games they are out. Unfortunately Athens won’t make it at 9-1...which I think is complete BS. Hillsboro, has to go 9-1 to get in as well...if other teams lose in the region they could possibly sneak in as the 8 seed. I agree though this region is tough!!

Athens playing in the TVC gets what they deserve. DeSales will find a way to get it done as they always have and let's see what type of basketball score we get with Hillsboro and Jackson this weekend.

Why is Athens not making it BS?? They made the schedule, they've stuck with the TVC knowing what it entails in terms of playoff points. Knowing that you won't get the points in conference means you need to schedule 1 or 2 tough out of conference games and they don't do that. As they say you made your bed now lay in it. Hillsboro and Jackson both need this game because the loser quite frankly is probably going to be out, Jackson could have an outside shot with a loss but they'd have to beat Chillicothe in week 10. Yeah Desales getting ready to take on Bishop Hartley and Winton Woods in back to back weeks...wow, not good for their playoff picture unless they can pull off an upset.

Last year it was Hillsboro’s lowest scoring game of season and also lowest combined score for any Hillsboro game.

28-6

A lot of the same personnel

Guessing 28-20

They should. Two big points games but two tough opponents. We need Hartley to beat Desales But Desales did beat Lancaster. Lancaster just beat Pick Central

I agree Athens knows playing down could hurt them.
The TVC may be down this year but the fact remains Athens is in a league that is to small for them.

Athens right now is like the Lucasville Valley of old. Going 10-0 for a few seasons and NOT making the playoffs. You need to fix your schedule boys.

Is this not the most solid local region. People think waverly has it bad. It’s ok it’s going tho make our state title that much sweeter.

This just happens to be a bad year in terms of what Athens' usual opponents have done. Seems like everyone is having a 'bad' year all at once.

As a member of the TVC:

Athens has been

2011 ... The #2 seed
2012 ... the #4 seed
2013 ... the #1 seed
2014 ... the #3 seed

Even with a brutal region in 2018, all they had to do is beat a Fairland team (which they should have done) they would be playing week 11 for the 5th time in 8 years ... Or, if NY was having a normal successful season, Athens could still be firmly in with a win over the Buckeyes in week 10.

If its not broke, don't fix it.

Need to drop Logan and Warren. Those two are a disaster to Athens points.

But a 9-1 OCC school dropped Athens after two years of playing for Oletangy. If they were on the schedule, Athens at 9-1 would have a home game

Athens has the easiest d3 schedule in the state. Jackson at 7-3 will be in over Athens at 9-1 . Problem???

If Nelsonville was having a good year Athens would still have to beat them and then they may just lose to them and finish 8-2 and still out of playoffs.
It’s a double edge sword really

When we win out I hope everyone else loses but Athens. Don’t know the odds but a home game vs Athens would be something.

From the OHSAA website - Due to a cancellation, Athens High School (The Plains, D-III) in Southeast Ohio is looking for a week 1 game for 2019 and 2020. Athens would prefer to travel in 2019 and host in 2020. If interested, please contact AD John Rogers at jrogers@athenscsd.org.
